C5 Dated & Declining value..Read This

they see is a Corvette. It maybe 10 years old or older but if it is
clean and shiney WOW, a Vette that's enough.!!
I see it often and I still marvel at it.
It's because most of them are babied and taken care of in an extraordinary way. I take much better care of my vette than I do of my wife's Lexus, even though I spent more on the Lexus.
If we all took that kind of care with all our cars, we'd probably get the same sort of comments about them too....if we ever had time to leave the garage.

Because I do take just as good care of all my cars, and I can guarantee you that the vettes get far more attention.
However, I will give second place honors to my CTS. That is an eye catching car, and it gets more compliments than most any other sedan that I've had. But it still is very definitely second place to a vette.

Seriously---everyone IS amazed when I tell them the afford-ability of the C5.... and they seem to respect the Corvette name!
One of America's true remaining icons---even if 1/2 the parts are made outside the USA...

Somewhere in another thread a member commented that from a design standpoint, the C5 almost looks like a more refined and updated version of the C6. I tend to agree. One of the things that drew me to the C5 was its timeless design. I talked to a Navy Chaplain last night who recently came home from Afghanistan to find a 2000 Corvette convertible in his garage that was a welcome home gift from his wife. Don't try telling him that it is a 10 year old car. He's too busy telling anyone who will listen that his wife bought him a Corvette as a welcome home from Afghanistan gift. As it should be....
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
His Dad was with him (68 year old retired LEO).
He spotted the Vette, and said to me"man that thing is Beautiful!" ,then he started checking it out,got down on his hands and knees and checked out the chassis, asked if he could look under the hood, etc.
After a few minutes of inspection,he asked me what year it was,and I told him "It's a '98"
He said "you mean '08,Right?
I said "no,it's almost 13 years old,it's a '98"
He said "c'mon, stop messing with me-there's no way this thing is 13 years old"
I asked him if he'd like to see the registration.
He declined that, then he said "So you never drive it,or what?"
I told him I'd put 14k on it in 18 months, and the guy that had it before me put 57k on it in 11 years,so it DOES get driven quite a bit, every day,in fact...
His son was done getting the ice,and came over to the Vette-his Dad asked him if he'd seen this thing,"Every day,Dad, that's what you need to get"
His Dad replied "Yeah, right, like I've got that kind of money"
At this point,I felt compelled to tell him what I paid for it...
He just looked at me,then looked at the Vette, then looked at me again, then looked at the Vette again....
Then he said to me"You do know you got the deal of a lifetime, right?"
I told him I was kinda thinking the same thing.
I was sitting in a waiting room (understatement when you're in the Army) at the dentist office and in walks a guy and his wife. I heard him say to his wife, "That's a new Z06, those things cost about 75 grand and they are the fastest cars out there"
It's nice to know our Z06s are faster than the $100K ZR-1.
lol
Yup, the C5 represents beautiful timeless lines and good value.
I hope the C7 is better looking...I'll be skipping over the C6..NO WAY I would own one in any form! The C5 is beautiful
I couldn't imagine someone calling a C5 dated and aging quickly. Compared to WHAT? I think it looks more fluent and smooth then a C6, although the 2 are clearly siblings. Yeah, it's more a cruiser then the C6, but I just think the look seems more smooth. No offense meant to C4 owners, but if you really wanna talk about looking aged...Something about the overall look just screams 80s to me. Could just be how they were the vettes I saw growing up tho (born '82).
"That's the most beautiful car I've ever seen, and I normally don't like sports cars", he says.
By now 3 other guys, including the store owner, are getting interested and when the guy suggests that they all go out to look at this car, they all do.
Now I'm figuring that this guy is emptying out the store to rip off some booze , but he goes outside with them to look at the car.
So I'm left alone holding my bottle of wine.
About 5 minutes later ( I mean FIVE minutes) they come back in and the store owner congradulates me on my new car and asks me when I got the car. When I tell him 11 years ago he gives me a "no way".
Now the other guys are in on it- "what year is it ?' "99"."GET OUT - no way".
I finally had to take out my registration just to prove how old the car is, just so I could pay for my wine and get out of there.
This car gets more attention, waves, thumbs up and smiles than any car I've ever owned - and I've owned a few.
And people still ask me when I'm going to buy a new car!! "get out".

You're right, I brought my 00 coupe in 12/09 for $21.400, with 15,000 miles at a Carmax. On checking their site and other used car dealers. I am seeing Vettes in good condition going for $24,000 and more with much more mileage on them. This is bound to settle down to the private sellers soon.
