I have an on-going vehicle search on AutoTrader.com just for fun... kinda keeps me in the loop on my car's current value... I have it search for 2001-2004 Corvettes within a 200 mile radius...
I get emails almost daily... I got one today listing a 04 Coupe with 31k miles for about $29k!! (I paid $22k in December)...
Without at least one passerby telling me how great my marroon C5 coupe looks.....its so danged dusty here in summer, they've have to come by my driveway after I washed it to think it was new!
I had similar experience a week after i bought my c5. i was approaching my car in best buy parking lot and met this guy walking around my 2001 c5. he asked me " is it 2010 corvete or 2011?
I talked to a Navy Chaplain last night who recently came home from Afghanistan to find a 2000 Corvette convertible in his garage that was a welcome home gift from his wife. Don't try telling him that it is a 10 year old car. He's too busy telling anyone who will listen that his wife bought him a Corvette as a welcome home from Afghanistan gift. As it should be....
That's about the coolest story I've heard in awhile!
Last week I picked up my middle schooler in the vette. While in line, some girl looks at the car and yells out 'NICE CAR' and give me a
Where was she when I was in 8th grade? Of course I didn't have a vette then either.
At the parking lot in Downtown Disney, a guy compliments the Batmobile with "That's a nice C6!"
I should've just said thanks, but instead I said, "Thanks, but it's a C5." I hope I didn't embarass him.
There's something exotic and mysterious about the hidden headlights, and the C5 just has a sexier low-slung wide look, that C6 lost, but finally recaptured with the wide-bodies.
I get the same response for my 03' which looks like a brand new car. My favorite incident happened a couple of years ago, when an older gentleman (I'd say mid to late 80's) came up to my car and started walking around it repeatedly, saying, "Wow, wow, wow!!! I always wanted one of these!!! He really made me feel great!
I get that allot too, it is great when I tell them it is a 1998 with over 220,000 miles on it and has had no major problems with a water pump being the most expensive thing that has gone bad and it gets about 25mpg average.
I think the best one was a gut at autozone when I pulled in and bought a radiator hose and antifreeze then ask him if he would mind if I installed it in their lot.
I told him it popped about 10 miles up the road and I would rather fix it now than drive it 10 more miles home.
He said you better call a wrecker because if you drove it that long with no water there was no way the engine was not blown.
I had to go get the owners manual from the car and show him where it says you can drive it xxx miles with no water without causing any harm.
He was speechless and did not believe it.
Even after that he said he bet it would not start.
After filling it up with water and checking everything I saw him and his friends looking out the window.
I know they were betting it would not go anywhere.
I backed out to the open part of their lot and done 3 big doughnuts.
By that time he and his friends were outside so I pulled back up and ask him what he thought now. I said not bad for a car with over 200,000 miles and just ran 10 miles with no water huh?
After showing him the miles he said he was going to start looking for one the next day and get rid of his mustang.
Don't let anyone tell you different, if they do they just don't "Get It", and probably drive an import 4 door - sorry *** owners ... sports cars have 2 doors ...

Now thats sticking it to a Mustang owner....
Nicely done !
I had mine in the Custom Car and Cycle show last year and one of the judges asked the guy that ran the show how come he had a new corvette in the car show and the owner of the show said look at the sign and do the math. My Roadster is a 98 with only 11,800 miles (at that time) and took best Street Machine.
Here's my data point. After hand washing my 2001 Mag Red Coupe last week, took it to the local car wash to vacuum the interior and finish detailing the glass and wheels. The owner came over and asked me to park it facing the street so all the cars driving by could see it. "I was welcome to detail my "new" vette anytime I wanted on his premises, it was good for business."
Thanks for the great response..invoked a lot of interest..and not to repeat my own words...got it again today stopped at a stop sign on the way to a cookout...this time by a young kid on his bicycle.."Is that a new car??"...
I must be keeping this Black Beauty Too clean.. Ok thats it.. I'm done...
both of my neighbors, several of my friends from back in hometown and most of my co-workers all SWORE the car was brand new when I got it a few months ago....1997, guess the changes in the C6 aren't enough for regular people to notice...?

For free use of his wash bay and vacuums I'd be there once a week!
