My car looks cleaner after one week's driving in rainy season than one week's driving in summer. The dust in the air and sprinkler water that the city leaks on streets are a nasty combination.
Corvette Forum rules, page 16, section 2 states,"owners are responsible for detailing their cars after driving in inclement weather within 2 hours of returning home. Failure to do so will result in a three month suspension from posting".
I guess that sums it up!!!
Mods...I hope this is OK
If I just detailed it NO WAY I willfully go on a rainy drive....
If it's a little dirty already, heck yes--I'm going out!
And I won't clean it for about a week or so--it seems a little liberating when I drive without caring thru puddles or I get nailed by other cars windshield washers...
Note: everyone always remarks how clean my Vette is--even when I think it's not!
If it were me, I'd drive it-I can't stand to sit and wait on ANYTHING and when I wanna go, I go, regardless.
BUT... Since it's not me, why don't you just wait til your wife gets home and then go to the gym, or do some excercises you can do at home? (think P90X type stuff).
I live in Oregon........if I never drove my Vette in the rain it would get almost no use. I bought it to DRIVE not to sit under a cover all it's life. So YES, drive it in the rain!
You need to move to the other end of Oregon.. The weather is great down here.. As it says on the big sign down the middle of town, Grants Pass.. "Its The Climate"
I guess I am one of the most eccentric here for not driving in the rain. My 03 50th Anniversary Pace Car Coupe has 37,000 miles on it and has only seen rain when caught in it on a long road trip. In almost 8 years, it has only been washed with soap and a hose 6 or 8 times. It is detailed every time it is driven. I only drive it to car shows or Corvette functions. It does have over $45,000 in mods and accessories. For that reason and the fact that at most car shows I am competing with "trailer queens," I go out of my way to keep it as clean as possible. I don't buy a trailer because I do like driving it.
To make matters worse, I even have a H3 Hummer that I bought for a daily driver but wound up putting so much bling and accessories on it that it is now, also, a "fair weather vehicle" only. It is an 06 with 21,000miles.
I can easily relate to the previous comments about being stuck at home when it was raining. After I retired, I found myself stuck at home more than once, with two vehicles tucked away in the garage. So I bought me a "rain truck." It is a basic 2010 Silverado Work Truck version which I drive in any weather. Although it is the cheapest truck available, I did add a little chrome so it wouldn't be so ugly!
Please know I do enjoy all of my vehicles as much as anyone here. I just enjoy them differently. To quote an ole cliche, "Sometimes we are our own worst enemy." Have a great Corvette day!!!

I've never driven my '98 in the rain or washed it in the 10 years that I've owned it. It currently has 26,600 miles on the odometer. The car had 11,000 miles on it when I purchased it. I'm often criticized for not "enjoying" my car and wish I had a nickel for every time I've heard the, "It won't melt" comment. I purchased my car as a toy and that's what it is. I enjoy knowing that I've got a beautiful car in the garage that I can take for a drive on a gorgeous summer day if I want.
In fact, put a light coat of wax on your windshield, you won't even have to turn them wipers on, the angle and the wind just rolls the rain drops off by themself.. This C5 is amazing.. I've driven in the rain, and it stopped, got home and the car looks like it was washed. The shape with the wind just blows the rain off.. (I guess it also helps that I have many coats of wax on her).. Drive her in all weather, enjoy the ride.

So many times I thought that I'd get home and have to wash it---only to discover a quick detail spray/wipe down was all that was needed...
Contrary to popular belief, the car comes fully equipped with windshield wipers, defroster and heat.
The only reason I would not drive it in heavy rain is the flooding that sometimes happens on my route to work. With the car being so low, I don't want to get my feet wet.
It's just my personal opinion but, What are you people saving your cars for? I personally didn't spend $50K for something to look at. That's what magazines/interweb are for.
There are no luggage racks on a hearse. You can't take this stuff with you when you die.
I for one, like to enjoy the "fruits of my labor" while I'm still here. I'm not saving it for the "Fruits of my loins" (kids) either.
