I had a really loud pop/clunk from under the car that turned out to be the axle problem described by Jet Jock. You won't feel any movement of the wheel with the axle nut on.
Take off the wheel and nut. Reach behind the brake rotor and grab the half shaft. Make sure your trans is in neutral and e-brake is off. Chock the front wheels first. The half shaft should move freely inboard to the diff and back out to the hub. You might need to tap it with a hammer to break any corrosion. Lube the spindle with spray grease from the front and behind while moving the half shaft back and forth.
I cleaned off the axle threads before retorquing to 120 ft-lbs.
I did it to both sides and it is quiet and perfect now.
I know this is going to sound weird, but have you checked the torque tube ends and tunnel plate? I had a weird clunk in another car and it ended up being the bellhousing had a crack and was slamming closed on pretty much any terrain.
And I was just thinking the tunnel plate could be loose.

We did check the tunnel plate. One mystery was that two bolts were broken off. The rest of the bolts were tight. I've not looked at the torque tube. Thanks for the input......
Do you still have stock bushings for your swaybar? I replaced mine with polyurethane bushings with a healthy dose of lubricant and my clunking went away.

Good luck

My sway bars came with new polyurethane bushings. I checked them and lubricated them as well. Thanks.. Keep them coming please...
checked the pcm & accuator mounting bolts? inside rf wheelwell
No. In fact I keep thinking that it's coming from the front right. Some of the mechanics think the rear. After I do the rear hub trick, I will pull the plastic wheel well covers off starting with the front right. Good suggestion. I wasn't sure if there was anything behind there. I did buy a service manual but it hasn't arrived yet. I assume it has pictures that will show me whats hidden where. Keep em coming.....

I recently tightened my axle nuts and the car is much quieter now. No more clicking when taking off from a light. And I haven't heard the thunking noises on uneven surfaces anymore. (Although, they were always worse with a passenger in the car, and I haven't had a passenger since tightening the axle nuts.)
