Yes you can have the sound system at normal volumes and hear it just fine, and have a conversation at normal volumes, you do not need to yell. It's really not that noisy into the triple digits.
I have an iPhone and use the headset that came with the phone, people say its perfectly clear with the top down. They can hear the engine more if you rev' it.
I made a video with the iPhone just sitting and holding it, LOL it was fairly quiet except for the song playing on the radio, I was teasing some one who had snow at the time and it was a beautiful top down day in December!
