Default Bugs

Recently purchased 2000 Vert has been waxed over bugs on nose. How's best way to remove old wax to get to bugs underneath?

Paint thinner, also known as mineral sprits from Wal-Mart is your best friend and is safe to use on your vehicle’s finish!! It is an inexpensive cleaner that will remove wax, tar, and glue. You can even get it odor free.

x2. I've always used this. Let it soak a few minutes and wipe the junk off.

May want to wash first with dawn or the like, then clay bar, then I used my PC polisher and apply swril/haze remover, then polish and then a wax. Also put on a glaze and then am now doing a straight carnuaba wax for protection, looks great and smooth as glass. Future bugs and road grit will come off easier too. Will PM with a link

Groit's garage sells a wax remover. I've not used it but their other products are good.

their products have a great reputation and they stand behind all of the things they sell. they aren't cheap, but they make (or sell) some of the best stuff out there.

Go to the autobody paint store and get some PrepSol. Works great and is made for this job.

One time I washed the entire car with mineral spirits...then washed with car wash soap and then waxed....it never looked so good. The spirits take off all the road grime, oil bugs etc from the paint and glass plastic and rubber !
Treat the rubber with a good Armor All type protector and everything looks great !

Don't think I'd have the cajones to do that.

I use an old pair of panty hose on a wash mitt. Takes the bugs right off and doesn't scratch the paint.

SEAFOAM sells a product called BUG B GONE.

I clean bugs from my motorcycle helmet visor, the front of the bike, my vehicle windshields, the nose of the Vette, etc!!

It has something in it that breaks down the proteins in the bug guts!!

Good for cleaning your prescription glasses too.

You may be able to remove the bugs but you will not be able to remove the marks they leave behind in the paint.

The bugs guts actually eat into the paint and leave permenent marks.

On lighter colored cars it is not as noticable. On dark colored cars like my black C5 you need to prevent them from ever hitting the paint in the first place.

My car has perfect paint, and to protect it I have the complete C5 invisible shield kit installed and in addition to that I run a very light stretch fit fabric bra on the nose and mirror socks on long trips for additional protection.

Dawn dishwashing soap works well for removing wax.

After I clay bar I wipe the car down with mineral sprits to get the cleanest finish possible before sealing and waxing. You can tell the difference in the shine.
