If you or the painter is not going to disassemble the car, you need to stick with the stock color. I cannot see how any painter would say for a little more I will do a color change. there is just way to much to do it correctly.
Also for a little more will not be a custom paint job. I bet he means a stock color done in the two step process, base coat clear coat. When you get into these custom colors there is a lot more work involved.
Again make sure he is going to disassemble the vehicle before you agree to a color change. If not you will not be happy with the final results.
These cars are easier than many to do color changes due to the ease of disassembly and the under hood portion (firewall etc) not being color matched.
Be careful with House of Kolor candy. It's difficult to spray, difficult to match and fades like no other.

I think the issue here is although they may be easy to disassemble (never tried so I cannot confirm) I am sure that the painter will not do all that is required for just a little more that an standard re-paint. The underside of the hood is color matched so it will need to be painted.
Who ever thought when presented with the opportunity to paint your car it would be so hard to decide on a color. I love the MY but this car i will keep forever as I just have to much time, money and effort in it. I love house of colors paint and i know what i like i just don't want to make a mistake!
As far as painting goes i know the painter so car will be completely dissambeled and stripped, primed and painted.

If you know what you like then there is no fear of making a mistake. You only worry about making a mistake when you try to figure out what others are gonna like. Everybody will not like it! I had mine repainted about 2 months ago. It is the most gorgeous green I've ever seen on a car. I love it and most people that see it, love it. I have, however, got some nasty comments about the color and the combination of aftermarket body panels that I chose, but it matters not to me. I wanted a custom Corvette. I had my custom Corvette built. I like it and I totally enjoy looking at and driving it.
My point is, do what you like! Some of us will like it. Some of us won't, but you will have the car you want. Please the man that's paying for the paint! Good luck and hurry up or summer will be over before it is completed.
i love the atomic orange.. and if you go Dupont, the "orange pearl" is pretty. i painted one of my cars that color, and had comments ranging from "OMG THATS THE COOLEST COLOR EVER" to "im sorry you have to be seen driving that."
hey, to each their own. when you're driving your car for somebody else, their opinion will matter last i checked, i was my own sponsor!
