***Should I Install HOOPS???***
I went to Lowes and in their plumbing section I found chrome (plastic) flanges like you would use to cover a pipe going into a bathroom wall or floor. They look like they came with the hoops and cover my little "mis-cuts" around the base of the hoops.
I can't post pics here but if you pm your email address I'll email some pics. Same offer to others.
Good luck with the install!

Sure....cosmetically, they look good. But for me, they don't serve their "real" purpose....at all....no protection whatsoever.
Yet, it seems all you vert folks just accept this....because they look good.
Something just doesn't seem right to me....kind of like stick-on brake vents or glue-on Buick ports.....or supercharger bolted to the top of the hood......
guess I better
after this....

Different views are always welcome and its whats its all about. ... Good thing we all don't like the same thing and by the way fantastic photo of your vette pulling your boat on your home page... I like that one.....

To me there are 4 main areas of modifications:
1) Functional modifications only. New heads, cam, clutch, diff, that sort of thing. Completely hidden or unchanged cosmetically.
2) Functional modifications that can also be cosmetic at the same time. For example, a nice set of bigger, lightweight wheels to accommodate larger tires. Very functional but can also add to the looks at the same time. Another example would be an aftermarket hood to fit a supercharger. Needed to clear the blower but also is a cosmetic difference. Or a nice exhaust setup...etc...
3) Cosmetic-only mods. For example, an exhaust plate. Or custom paint work or aftermarket bumpers as more examples. Doesn't serve any real purpose but some people like the looks.
4) Cosmetic-only mods that are disguised as functional mods. Big cowl hoods that don't have anything underneath. Z06 badges on a non-Z06. Stick-on brake ducts. Fake carbon fiber. Etc.
I don't have any problem with 1-3, but #4 is pure poser, plain and simple. Fake roll bar hoops are about as ricerish as you can get. It's about as bad as the PVC roll cages I've seen.
Good choice not going with the hoops.

Actually, here is MY boat.....nothing special, but for an '81, it's in good shape and a lot of fun with economy. 140 hp chev four banger.

I was taking a back road Sunday and snapped several boats alongside the road in various states of neglect. That's where the little finned beauty was.....

To me, it's a cosmetic option just like choosing the color of your leather trim. No one with seat hoops is trying to claim their car is something it's not.
