The simple fact is that none of us are perfect, and all of us have broken the law at one time or another, either consciously or unconsciously.

If you consciously break the law about front plates, window tint, blacked out lights, whatever....then be an adult and accept responsibility for your actions.

I am not a LEO - but I have a lot of LEO friends, they are not all seeing and knowing....they are just men and women trying to do a thankless miserable job, in all kinds of weather conditions, risking their lives every time they step out of their house to go to work. Because they are human - they make mistakes, have opinions, some do their jobs better than others, and most importantly can have a "bad day" once in a while. That trooper that just pulled you over might have just left the scene of a fatal accident.....I know they are trained to handle difficult situations, but they are still human.

Also as humans - if you come off as an asshat, you can expect them to react accordingly. If you give respect, likely (but no guarantee)you will get treated with respect in return. Yeah, cops like Vettes, but not all of them do.

Bottom line is be an adult - take responsibility for your actions, and treat people with respect and once in a while just try to put yourself in the other man's shoes and think about how you'd react in the same situation. [/philosophy discussion]

I'm also a police officer and it really depends on how you act around the officer. If your an a-hole to me and argue non-stop, you get a ticket. If you're respectful and polite, and understand what they did wrong, I usually give the person a warning no matter what car they drive. I've never wrote a ticket to anyone in a vette though (even the one that was doing 148 mph in a 55 mph zone).

I first off, I have the utmost respect for Law Enforcement Personnel. It is a very difficult job with varing degrees of recognition! Second, how cool to see you guys respond to this thread! Every police officer is human, they have good days they have bad, some work in tougher areas then others, they meet good people and very bad people and try their best to treat all the same. I am a lover of no plate in the front and yes I am breaking the law and if I am stupid enough to get pulled over for a moving violation and they tell me to fix it I will. Since I don't plan on getting a moving violation, I don't expect to get a ticket for the plate. I believe the Law folks have better things to do and up here I tend to believe they think the same way. Attitude is the key, respect is the key, so it is in day to day dealings with anybody! Give them flack and I would hope they return in kind. If I do get pulled over for my plate just because it is the plate I will be upset, but I will be respectfull of the LEO's job. Remember that they are keeping the roads safe, you can't tell but by them enforcing the road laws they are saving lives, they guy you see pulled over could be the guy that got you in an accident and hurt you or a loved one if he hadn't of pulled over that guy over. Hats of to LEO and thanks, I drive late at night as my wife does and I firmly believe they do a good job of keeping the roads safer around here.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Accept that you've been pulled over for a reason. Speak to the officer in a manor in which you'd like to be treated, and you'll be amazed how well things go. Don't blame the LEO for enforcing codes that are set by the state. He or she is only doing what we ask of them. Enforce the law.

When I was pulled over for tint and no front plate, it was by a state trooper near my hometown, which is about 100 miles away from my current home. Previously to being pulled over by him, I had driven by state troopers 100s of times in my current city, because there is massive road construction going on right now and they are patrolling constantly. Never once did they give me a second look. However, when I commented (nicely, by the way) to the trooper that did ticket me that the troopers in my home town have never pulled me over, he simply said in a condescending tone: "it's not my fault they're not doing their damn jobs."

So, I ask...who's right here? Should all cops/troopers pull every single car over that appears to have dark tint and no front plate? There are 1000s of soccer mom SUVs that meet that criteria where I live. Or are the troopers in my town right, since it's a very minor infraction and I'm always driving responsibly and they let it go? It shouldn't go both ways. THAT is what pisses me off. Needless to say, I had to pay to get my tint removed (it came on the car when I bought it...I didn't "choose" to break the law by putting it on) and get it signed off by a local cop. My opinion...do what you say and say what you do. Always.
Police officers are bestowed with a wonderful thing called discretion. That's why when I stopped a car and the driver was polite and honest, I was probably less likely to write a ticket as opposed to someone who was rude and antagonistic. If police officers wrote tickets to everyone they stopped, there would be a lot more complaints on this forum.

Get yourself one of these plates. It usually goes a long way with law enforcement. However they are a bit hard to come by.

Years ago I got stopped by the ISP for speeding on the tollway. I had my son with me and we were talking, and I obviously wasn't paying attention. The trooper told me why he had stopped me, thanked me for my service, told me to slow down and sent me on my way. Semper Fi

My old man had many sayings some not worth much in my adult opinion now but one rings very true, no matter if you do something wrong long enough then sooner or later you will get caught.

Its not the troopers fault that you chose drive a car with illegal tint on your windows beyond the acceptable safety tint or not using a front plate in a state where you know it is the law. Write your state representative and tell him to change the laws on tinting and front plates. How many times have you broken the speed laws and made moving violations consciously when there was no cop around and got away with it. It was your decision to remove the plate and buy a car with excessive tint on the windows, not the cop. So don't blame him for your choices. I am sorry you got the ticket, but you broke the law.
I don't disagree with you. But you missed my point. Not putting on a front plate isn't irresponsible. I had never gotten a ticket in my life prior to that day, and I don't think not having a front plate makes me irresponsible. Does that mean all the drivers in the states that don't require front plates are automatically responsible drivers? And as for the tint, I bought it that way. I didn't want to go pay to have it removed the moment I crossed into my home state when I bought it in order to become a "responsible" driver. I bought the car because it's my dream car and I was searching for one for 8 years! I didn't buy it because it had dark tint...

Back to my point...there are TONS of people who don't run a plate and have very dark tint in my hometown and throughout Wisconsin. This is no different than any other state. My point is that for some reason, this trooper decided to track me down (I was heading in the opposite direction as him on a divided 4-lane highway so he had to speed up, put other drivers' lives in danger, pull a U-turn and chase me down). He had a bad attitude as soon as he walked up to my car, but I was extremely polite. It's my nature. He immediately walked to the front of the car, looked at the bumper, and then got his light meter out and stuck it to my window. THEN he asked me "do you know why I pulled you over?" It was quite obvious at that point (I wasn't speeding). I said with completely honesty that I didn't have a front plate on the car at the time and that I bought the car with it already tinted and I wasn't sure how dark it was. At that point, he went back to his car and returned with the fix-it ticket. Only THEN did I try to have a polite conversation about why he felt the need to pull me over when troopers in my home town never have before. The ticket was written. I just wanted some insight so I would know what to expect next time. That's when he made the smart-*** comment and said have a nice day.

So am I still an irresponsible *****? I understand cops have bad days, but this "discretion" argument doesn't hold water in my opinion. Either enforce the law on ALL cars and ALL citizens, or don't. Don't **** us off by being selective when I wasn't doing anything outrageous. I was simply driving home to see my family and the whole ordeal ruined the trip and just upset me, as it would anyone else. I had the tint removed and I always run my plate now. I just wish officers would enforce the law a little more equally. Is that too much to ask?

You are the one having a bad day..you are completely missing the concept that you broke the law. A Man would accept the fact that its illegal to run without a front plate in your state, suck up the fact that you finally got caught... a wuzzz would defend the fact that breaking the law is OK if you are constantly getting away with it. So why now when a cop is doing his job are you crying about it... you don't have a leg to stand on with the tint or the front plate...pay the fine and keep driving that way.. its your choice. If it wasn't the law , then why would you remove the tint??? You removed the tint because it " IS" the law.. end of story.... You can of course move to a different state... one that is less restrictive to your driving choices. Am I being harsh?? sure.. but you are making ridicules excuses for your actions. I understand that you are now complying with the laws in your state.. Not everyone gets caught as you have eluded too....but don't bitch because you finally got caught. Jurisdictions sometimes have pushes on certain things like tint and front plates.. Some other guy probably had your same argument when he got caught and wanted to make sure that everyone like yourself would be ticketed.. so maybe you are the product of the exact same issue that you seem to want to have happen...everyone with dark tint and no front plate should be ticketed.. Maybe you did get your wish.. but then maybe not too.
The End

I enjoy my tints and no plates.
I will pay the fines and deal with it. The only thing that blows my mind is that two years ago Illinois raised the tint law from 25 dollars to 250 dollars.....of course not for revenue.......Righttttt

Evil Twin,

I respect you as an experienced member of this forum and I respect all police officers and public servants in general.

I think questioning my manhood (and calling me a "wuzzz", whatever that is) is quite uncalled for, however. I'll say this plainly... I *know* I broke the law. I clearly stated that to the officer at the time, and to everyone on this forum in my post. I removed the tint because the officer wrote me a fix-it ticket to do so. I did not remove it prior to that, because as I said, the car came like that and I chose not to spend the money to remove it because I honestly wasn't sure how dark it was. I made no excuses. Read my posts again if you must. My point was, and continues to be, that I find it to be unfair that officers use this so-called "discretion" to enforce the law for some motorists, and not others. Read the posts in this thread...others have had cops pull right up to them at a gas station with blacked out lights, loud exhausts and limo tint. Why didn't they immediately ticket them like the officer did to me? THAT is my point. "End of story." I do not make excuses... I'm simply stating my opinion that officers should enforce the law equally. Why do you have such a problem with that opinion? I'm done replying to these posts now...I feel I've made my point. But if not, so be it. I respect your opinion and all I'm asking for is the same.
