Delco pro 78, had it for 18 months, no problems. It replaced a red top that was trouble almost from new.

Should be good to go.
I just replaced my AC Delco 6 yr Battery this weekend. I was a little irritated until I realized I got it in either 2003 or 2004. I was happy with over seven years, so I got another 6yr. I would have gone seven, but the dealer was out.

If a modern battery won't leak and is a thing of the past, then why is my ecm and frame corroded? Why did I have to wash the whole area out and apply baking soda to neutralize the acid that didn't leak out of my modern battery?

Sorry to hear your misfortune. May I ask, what brand of battery was it? How long had the battery been in service in your car? We dont really hear these stories too much anymore. Can you give us more specifics? Thanks!

Have a 2000 vette (original owner) replaced the battery after 2 yrs. (leaking at pos terminal) Bought a red top Optima and still going strong nine years later. Guess what my next battery will be.

I'm currently running the Kirkland battery - no complaints at all.
Agreed. All of my cars ('99 C5 Convertible, '03 Subaru Baja, '00 Subaru Outback, '04 Mazda 6, '98 Acura 3.0CL) have batteries from Walmart or Costco. I do keep a CTek on the C5 in the winter months. Half or a third the price of the high-end batteries and they do what they are supposed to do and no finicky problems like the chi-chi Red and Yellow tops.

I bought my '99 FRC new & the factory battery leaked! It was a side mount & I believe it was over torqued causing the leak. I replaced it with a red top & put in a battery mat after cleaning the mess. p.s. I use a CTEK 3300 all the time...

What do you consider to be "modern"? If your modern battery was a 97-00 version then no, it is not a modern battery in my book.

In the last 10 years, I have seen 2-3 reports here in this forum of leaky Optima batteries - that's more than I've seen of 2001-2011 AC Delco, Costco, Walmart, or Sears batteries. Is that a significant percentage? ...absolutely not and far greater than the percentage of leaky 97-00 batteries that were OEM in C5s.
