Default New Battery Needed

Looks like I need a new battery.
My 02 C5 won't hold a charge anymore.
What Battery would you guys recommend? Stay with the GM Delco or some other brand.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Mark

I have an Optima Yellow Top in mine. The battery was 2 years old when I got the car 5 years ago. Still works like a champ. I have totally drained it on a couple of occasions and it comes right back. I keep a Battery Tender on it during the winter.

Default a couple of good choices

Best bang for the bucks:

Costco Kirkland: $60

Walmart MAXX: $72

I'm currently running the Kirkland battery - no complaints at all.

Sears platinum plus is a rockin' battery. Not even a tremble in the car.

I second the Sears Plat. which is a AGM battery. Very expensive but one less thing to worry about.

I have a Optima Red Top 34/75 I think it is. I have been pleased with it, in fact it's the second one I've had.

If it is a Daily Driver I would look into Optima.s.
If it is going to sit for weeks at a time I would get Optima with a CTEK3300 maintainer.
Not into putting an acid battery right above my PCM.
Just my 2 cents.

While you're at it, make sure you use runflat tires and keep an extra alternator handy. Hey, you can't be too cautious!

Seriously, the chances of having a modern battery leak is so small, you have nothing to worry about unless you daily drive over numerous 6-inch deep potholes. If that's the case, keep those runflats as well!

Based on the research I've done, I agree. Bought one today AAMOF. Sears Die Hard Platinum series manufactured by Enersys (Odyssey batteries). I chose the P4 34/78DT with 880 CCA and 135 mins RC. It is the same exact battery as the Odyssey PC1500DT 34/78 except for the gray/silver colored case and the slightly better price through Sears. Manufactured at Enersys plant in Warrensburg, MO. First 4 years free warranty replacement then prorated after that. Another factor in my choice is there are Sears Auto locations all across the country.

Ever since Optima dropped any warranty after the first 36 months on all it's batteries, no more for me.

Installed replacement GM delco.. gorgeous battery looks great in the battery den. Works great and replaced the stock one that lasted 6 years. Cost $94 dollars! I would stick with a GM battery.

I've been buying Die-hard batteries for almost 40 years and that is what I have in my '02. About 12 years ago I had one fail in a BMW the second day after it was installed. The Sears Auto Center apologized for the inconvenience, handed me another new one and I went on my way. Maybe there is a better deal somewhere else today, maybe tomorrow, but day in and day out the consistency is hard to beat.

And . . .you bought the correct Die Hard Plat for your car
The computer in Sears recommends the P3
From a previous post:
=======Jistari=============
For those thinking of going with a Die Hard Platinum, be advised that if you walk into Sears and tell them you have a 97-04 Corvette their computer may say that you need a

P3 75/86DT CCA 710 RC 90

The correct Die Hard Platinum battery for the C5 is a

P4 34/78DT CCA 880 RC 135

Regarding the P3
This battery is smaller than your tray, and when they first gave me this one I installed it, tourqued the terminals and cranked the hold down bracket as tight as it would go. Ive been using a Ctek Battery charger for some time now so the lower RC did not effect me at first. What did affect me was in testing the car after doing C6Z51 sways, shocks and endlinks I kept getting a "thunk" on hard cornering. We went over and over the suspension work looking for the cause of that thunk.
As a last resort I grabbed the battery and pushed on it.......yup.....thunk OMG, it was sliding back and forth in the tray, how embarrasing
At any rate, this battery is small for the tray and IMO has too low an RC for a C5.

Regarding the P4
Fits the tray, and has more CCA and the better RC.

Yup, they are heavy but they wont leak and I no longer have to worry about it not starting if Im away on vacation.

Works for me

I have a little over 5 years on the Exide Orbital and it has been awesome. Battery tender when not going to be driven for 3 weeks or more. Just my 2¢...

Just under 5 years on my Exide Orbital, and going strong!
I keep my CTEK3300 on it when it sits for awhile.

The Corvette battery leaks of the past were specific to the AC Delco design of that time. There are no worries with modern battery designs.

I'm running a Costco size 75 with 700 Cold Cranking amps in my 02 Z. The battery has plenty of juice. Comes with a 36 month free replacement and 100 month pro-rated warranty. All for $68

Thanks for all the input guys.
I replaced it today with a new GM 75-7yr battery that pumps out 700 CCA.
Should be good to go.

I've had two Optima Red Tops (one in the '00 lasted 7+ years and was still going good when I sold the car; one in the '03 failed right at the 3 year point). Now have a Sears DieHard Platinum and after 10 months, all is going well.
