I've seen no less than four other companies in the past that claimed they could do it. In every case, they eventually returned the units to customers with no repairs. If this one is different, that would be amazing news. I doubtful but hopeful.

Why delete it before someone has a chance to prove/disprove it? Eventually someone is going to crack this nut - why not the company you listed? I hope you re-list it. Who knows.

I didn't think my reply was negative - just giving some background and thanking you for the info. And there was only one other reply before you deleted the post.
Do you guys think buying a used one is the answer, or just screw it if it goes south? And can the light be programmed out? I'm going to take mine in and have it diagnosed because mine may be a ground. (it comes and goes, mostly comes) BUT if it is the ebcm I can't see spending the money on used for it to possibly go bad as well.
It's nice having the feature, but I can live without it.
The same thing that can happen to the 2001 - 2004 model year EBCM's. Electronically they fail. The only difference is that if the failure code is C1214 on the 2001 - 2004 there are a couple of companies (or you can do it yourself) that can repair that failure (no other code though). On the early year EBCM, as of this point in time, no one has been able to provide a consistent and reliable repair. There have been a few companies that purport to be able to repair the early year EBCM's, have taken money from Forum members and ultimately returned the EBCM without repair but kept the money. Hence my scheptism in post #3.
As Matt suggested before shelling out a lot of money, get some agreement in writing as to costs, etc in case they cannot repair your unit.
As far as repairing the 2001 - 2004 with code C1214 yourself read here:

I believe the earlier year EBCM printed circuid board assemblies were "potted" in a hard material, making them essentially unrepairable. The 01-04 EBCM boards were potted in a soft silicone or polyurethane material. Typically, in order to protect circuit board assemblies from water damage, manufacturers will encapsulate (pot) them in a soft material to allow for differential expansion and contration of the various materials that make up the board components.Board assemblies that will not be exposed to water or excessive moisture (such as those behind the dash) in general are often simply conformal-coated with a clear coating.
Don't know if they were a "previous tenent" or not as some of the business nexus type websites seem to indicate Phillips Carpet is still an ongoing business at that address. Relevant as to research on any "company" I may plan on sending money based on nothing more than a website. I want to see proven results/recommendations/track record, etc. BTDT
Bill: Lone Star? Really? That stuff'll gag a maggot. Give me a nice Heinie or Dos Equis dark.
Btw, check out Google Earth sometime. Very handy indeed.

Why not call them and ask questions?

Good point, but in fairness anyone can say anything on a phone. BTDT, trust me.
I'm much more interested in first hand comments or experiences from trusted sources. This non-repairable EBTCM issue on early C5s has been a known problem for years and something tells me this outfit wouldn't be the first one to try something of this nature on these specific units, even with good intentions, only to find thay can't make good on a reliable repair.
If they've come up with the magical solution great. Time will tell. It usually does.
