Default Pulled over for DWIC

Posted this on my facebook, thought I'd copy and paste it here for those of you with nothing better to do than read my rant.

Today I was pulled over for DWIC. Have you ever been accused? It's "D"riving "W"hile "I"n "C"orvette. I was sitting at 24th Ave S.E. and Alameda, at the stoplight headed south on my way to work after dropping my son off. There was a Red Volkswagon Jetta next to me. There was a NPD (Norman Police Department) patrol car directly behind her. The light changed, I left, the Jetta sat there (she was texting). I got across the intersection, looked in my mirror to make sure I was clear for a lane change, and signaled. As I was looking in the mirror, I saw the Jetta's headlights dim (I guess she panicked and killed her car when she realized the light wasn't getting any greener, her lights were dimming because she was starting her car), and at the same moment, I saw the NPD go around her (there were others as well).
Now for those of you not privy to this, you can get an optional HUD (heads up display) on Corvettes which mine has. It shows your SPEED ON YOUR WINDSHIELD so there is NO doubt to how fast you are going. After getting through the intersection and getting my speed to 44 mph, I SET MY CRUISE CONTROL (speed limit was 40 mph). He (NPD patrol car) runs up on my *** and LIGHTS ME UP. I pull over, wait for him to come to the window to find out what I was pulled over for, and he informs me I WAS GOING 54 MPH IN A 40 AS I CROSSED THE INTERSECTION. I take issue with his sanity, he takes my license and insurance back to his car.

Now here's the thing:

1. I NEVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER, got over 44 mph. I was WATCHING MY HUD!

2. How did Deputy Fife clock me in the intersection IF HE WAS STUCK BEHIND ANOTHER CAR WHILE I WAS "ALLEGEDLY SPEEDING" THROUGH THE INTERSECTION?

And finally,

3. IF I WAS DOING 14 MPH OVER THE SPEED LIMIT, WHY DID I GET A WRITTEN WARNING AND NOT A TICKET?

I pay a LOT of taxes here in Norman, and I can only hope there are better examples of law enforcement out there than this guy. BTW, as I pull back out on 24th, a Gray Mazda 3 passes me in a NO PASSING ZONE (I'm going 38 in a 40, I estimate his speed at 60, and he was going this speed AS HE WENT PAST THE NPD OFFICER WHO TURNED RIGHT BEHIND ME ON THE SAME ROAD. AND HE DIDN'T GET PULLED OVER.

WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT?

As a former poilce officer and radar instructor I can assure you a radar unit can pick up moving object beyond the car in front of his squad car. In general terms, doppler radar bounces off the closest moving object and will then give you him the exact speed of that object.
Whether or not this guy really had you on beam or not - I cant say.
Have you changed tire sizes that would throw off your speedometer?

Go to court and contest it. As mentioned already, radar will pick out the fastest moving radar return it sees and post it to the office. It could easily have been someone coming the opposite direction.

He didn't get a ticket, he only got a warning. I would let a sleeping dog lie.

Was justice served, probably not. You want to contest a warning ticket? Life is not fair so cut your losses and move on. The more you dwell on this unfairness the less likely you are to respect all law enforcement officers and there are some good ones out there. IMHO

As mentioned by TwinTurbo, I would get the speedometer checked, just out of curiosity if nothing else. Wouldn't worry about the warning, it's just that. Don't know if you can go to court to contest a warning but it may be different in OK & other states.
He just may have wanted to take a closer look at your vet.......

I've run into this type of thing twice now...but if no ticket was issued I'd agree it's water under the bridge.

Most of the GPS devices will give you your MPH. Maybe not super accurate but probably within a mph or two.

I am a gun dealer here in my hometown, and sell to many, many LEO's. Don't know this guy though. Most are great guys, this is NOT to be an LEO flame thread, I just needed to vent.

I have a GARMIN GPS in my car (double din Kenwood), and my GPS and speedometer/hud are exactly the same. Had an LEO friend of mine come check my car for me today as well. We checked it against 2 different patrol cars, and my speed is 100% on according to the LEO's.

DEFINITELY not a LEO flame thread from my perspective - everyone has their own biases and prejudices, including the folks that keep us safe.

I like when I ask to see it on radar. Why do they always say they cleared it? It's been proven the radar can catch an electric fan and even trees speeding.

Clearly he did not get you on radar or you would have gotten a ticket. He was hoping to get you on some other violation and made up an excuse to pull you over. Lucky for you he couldnt find anything. Or maybe he just wanted to check out your Vette up close, nothing would suprise me.

You are a dangerous criminal and should be taken off the road! You admit openly to driving a Corvette [ a dangerous high speed vehicle] so where is your defense? Shame on you!

I pay a LOT of taxes here in Norman, and I can only hope there are better examples of law enforcement out there than this guy
Smart that you did not bring your taxes pay his salary issue to the officer. Things would not have ended well for you.
What does paying a lot of taxes have to do with getting pulled over anyway?
