My insurance company called me today to tell me my request to cover "customized parts" was denied. And that I would have to insure my Corvette elsewhere after the end of this six month policy... Why do you ask??? Because my car as an "Upgraded" suspension... Yea that's right... a Z51 suspension from factory... I tried to explain to the lady and her manager... but neither one would have it. The only way they would reconsider is if I had dealer documentation... So I called my chevy dealer who said that they didn't have the information because my car was too old... I told my insurance company how stupid they were... Since a good amount, maybe 60% of corvettes 5&6 Gen. had that option from factory...
Any ideas on what to do? By the way this is with 21st Century. Maybe I should switch???
that sounds incredibly stupid. If it comes up as a Z51 on their computers, they know its a stock option. I take it they dont insure any high end cars? how about a z06, or zr1, or acr? Get a manager on the phone from the home office
also I will add, when I had state farm, I asked if I could insure the car for more since i have about 80k into mine. They said I would have to get it appraised at a shop they work with and whatever estimate they had, they would match that coverage.
First, maybe ask if anyone on this forum still has their window sticker (I'm sure someone does) with the RPO code for Z51 listed in the options column. Scan that and send it to you so you can send to your insurance company as proof that it was a factory option.
Secondly, maybe look at changing insurance companies. I'm with State Farm and all they asked is what year, VIN number, and what body style (coupe or convertible). I've never heard of anyone asking about what options you have.
could take a picture of the build code, show they countless books on the subject
personally i would switch companies. some insurance agencies are just a ssholes
Its 21s Century Insurance.
I told them I could take a picture of the build codes. They said and I quote: "No. It has to be documentation from a dealer. Underwriters are not going to spend time researching build codes"
Brush it off and let it go...
I would not trust a company that cannot make things right on the front end, to make things right if they were really needed...like in the case of an accident or worse. Ken

Maybe I am reading your post wrong or no one else has picked up on it yet, but why would you ask to have customized parts insured? Did the car come with the Z51 package, and if so why would you tell them you have customized parts on it. If it did not come with the Z52 package and you have installed it or had it installed again why mention it. If you dropped in a LS9 would you ask to have it insured? No insurance company that I am aware of covers custom or high performance equipment, except specialty insurance companies

If you have anything else insured with them, drop them and move on to somebody that doesn't have cranium rectumitus (head up their a$$).

My insurance company allows an increase in coverage for custom and aftermarket upgrades. I was just working on a quote for exactly that just yesterday.
