With STOCK gearing, the STOCK redline is 6500, and the fuel cutoff is at 6600rpm. Depending on the size (overall diameter) of your rear tires, the top speed under these conditions is redline (fuel cutoff) limited (there is horsepower to go faster at higher RPM) and the topspeed would be somewhere between 171mph and 177mph in 5th gear, depending on your ACTUAL tire diameter.
Stock the top speed in 6th gear is only 134mph (depending on head or tail wind). You are too far down the power curve to make enough horsepower to go faster in 6th. BTW, If you spray or boost to make enough power, it will break 6th gear which is a very small gear for highway gas mileage only.

I and others I know have been well over 134 in 6th.
According to the HUD in a bone stock 03 Z06 I was driving I had it up to 165. I forget what RPM and gear, it was years ago on a public highway and I had to slow it down. Still had more in it though.
My current Z06 should definitely break the 200mph barrier, dare I try it, since it has the M12 and a 2.73 rear. With a 625whp turbocharged setup. I am really anxious/nervous to try it. There are no open enough roads where I am in NY.

So could you in theory get a shorter 6th gear to bring down 6th to a more reasonable max? I know the THEORETICAL top speed of 6th is like 260-something, so couldn't you reduce that down to like 220? what kind of power would that require?

Yes gear ratios can be changed for a few grand.
the magic 200 mph line takes HP, lots of HP.
and it is not just additive, but logarithmic increases.
Most cars to cross the 200 mph threshold are north of 700 hp. Most in the 900 hp range.
That last 30 mph from 170 to 200 is the where most of that HP is needed.
I believe you're thinking of mile races taking that much power. I've done 195 in 6th with only 445rwhp, well the vararam adds a few more at that speed. Lingenfelter did 225 with 650 hp TT and 2.73 gear swap

More interesting to the racer is the fact that it takes 145 hp to overcome drag at 150 mph. We know that our Corvette example car has about 240 hp, so about 95 hp must be going into overcoming rolling resistance and the slight braking forces arising from internal friction in the drive train and wheel bearings. Race cars capable of going 200 mph usually have at least 650 hp, about 350 of which goes into overcoming air resistance. It is probably possible to go 200 mph with a car in the 450-500 hp range, but such a car would have very good aerodynamics; expensive, low-friction internal parts; and low rolling resistance tires, which are designed to have the smallest possible contact patch like high performance bicycle tires, and are therefore not good for handling.
for most race cars that are designed for that speed, 650 hp min
