That's this Texan's plan as well.

When I test drove my car in July I didn't take the top off. Before buying, I asked the "20-something" owner if the tops came on & off without a problem. He said he didn't know, as he'd NEVER taken the top off!

I only have the painted top, but I would really like to give the lexan a try. Sounds like it would be pretty cool, especially at night.

Both look to me but I prefer the lexan top. How much heavier are the painted tops?

The only time my top goes on is when I park it outside somewhere.

but seriously... my car is black so it really wouldn't make much difference. I guess I prefer the solid because it insulates better.

I only have the painted top but I'm trying to find a reasonably priced clear top. No luck yet.

Purchased with the lexan top, but it was faded and had mirco cracks. Purchased another from a forum member down in Fresno, he purchased new, used once and the sun baked his interior so much he packed it away under his bed for 11 years. I got it for real good price. Now I'm carbon fiber wraping the old top. I too use a shade on the lexan top, it's way to hot in the vette with the lexan top here in Northern Calif. I'll show the carbon wrap top in a bit, placing an order soon..

I love the looks of the painted body color top, and purchased a nice solid top and had it repainted MY. The lexan top has never been on since.

I've been running the painted top since I owned the car. I drove an 08 with the lexan and I was sold. I will be adding one to my C5 soon.

Me too. Hope I don't get into a bidding war with you on ebay.

I've got both tops with my quicksilver 2001 coupe. I like the painted tops looks better and keep it on most of the time. It is better insulated as well.

Summer painted, winter glass. Both are a must.

My vote is for the lexan top. Makes things feel very open. Love it.
Up here in the Great White North, we don't have to worry about the heat too often. Only have the lexan, and if could only own one - it would be the clear top.

I use both depending on the weather. Hot summer day, painted top. Cool cloudy day, lexan top.

The day I received my new 01, I immediately washed it, wrapped the painted top, stored it, installed the polycarb top and never looked back. The air conditioning is so powerful, I can't imagine it not adequately cooling off the interior, even in mid-Summer. The tinted top gives me that fighter jet cockpit feeling that is just not there when the solid top is in place.

I have kept my eyes out for a clear top. As soon as I find one for a great price I will get it for my car. I love the cockpit feeling the clear top gives.
