I attended my first HPDE held by Tracks Unlimited at Barber Raceway on 6 Oct. It was a trip! There were Corvette, Ferrari, Porsche, Cobra, Lotus, Audi R8, and Mustang represented. The experience was great and because I am a novice I had an instructor ride with me and advise me. Also, between the track runs there was classroom instruction. It filled the entire day and the people were friendly and informative. If you want to learn how to drive fast, the right way, attend an HPDE. I never realized how much I didn't know about driving and how much I had to learn. My instructor let me ride with him in his Z06 - now I have a bar to strive for. Thank you to everyone that made my experience possible.

PS: My instructors told me their 'forum name', but, I must have heard them wrong. If you guys see this, sent me a PM.
And, as if that wasn't a wonderful experience in and of itself, Barber is a beautiful track. Did you have an opportunity to check out the museum? I highly recommend it!!!
I've gone on two HPDEs at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) and what a blast! I highly recommend to any novice to try an HPDE at a "real" race track if at all possible.
Track day = $250
Gas = $80
Legally driving your car like you stole it = PRICELESS
It is a great way to get on some of the most famous tracks in America. I have got to do VIR, RD ATL, Charlotte Motor Speedway and DAYTONA! I highly recommend it to all vette owners.
Go check out the AX/RR section here. You will find your instructor there.

Going to the AX/RR section was a great tip. I found them - thanks!!
It's amazing what these cars are truly capable of. Only a small percentage of owners ever find out.
Legally, anyway! But as you know, it's not just all about speed; we find how they take the curves, braking skills, etc. Plus the things I've learned both from my instructor and the required class, I've taken to the streets to become a safer driver.
And speaking of safety, it should be stated that an HPDE is one of the safest ways to find out what these cars can do - certainly a lot safer than on the highway.

cars even stock are too fast too push the limit driving public roads. even if you disregard the laws the amount of speed you carry even in the most skilled hands and be a train wreck when you hit a random gravel patch or the pavement changes quickly.
track is the only place you can somewhat safely learn the absolute limit and even then very few push it there working on their lap times until you start turning 3 in a row all within a tenth

How's that work? The way the top goes up/down, I don't see a way to install one. Unless that means doing away with the top, which ain't gonna happen here.

In other cars, I never really had an issue with driving them in a drift or playing on public highways (done safely of course). This thing though is a different story. The break away speed is so fast, I don't think there's going to be a whole lot of forgiveness when it decides to go. So I haven't played to find out. I'd like to get mine onto a track just to find out where the point of no return is. At low speed it seems pretty tame and predictable. But it's so light, and so different than other suspensions I've driven, I don't feel real good where I think the limit is.
I also think about the fact that even the guys driving on TV stick cars in the weeds every week. They have insurance tho, called sponsors.

Sounds like a great time and an opportunity to learn a heck of a lot about these cars - plus learn how to be a better/safer driver. Going to have to put attending an HPDE on my list of things I want to do.
