For most of you that replied in this thread, how do you know what will or what's going to happen if you haven't used 87 octain fuel in your Corvette???
Just asking out of curiosity, how would you know? And how can you pass on a valid opinion without first hand knowledge?
How do you know which TV to buy? Which doctor to go to? Which insurance policy to buy?
Answer those questions and you'll have answered your own.
Here on longisland we are having a big gas shortage. After waiting one hour on line when i got to the pump they only had 87.it was that or run out of gas so i had to get it.Will a bottle of octane boost help?
Thanks
Premium fuel is now in most of the stations in Suffolk county.
Regular Octane Boost will not make it like 91-93 Octane - when it says it raises it, say, 3 points - what you get is 87.3 Octane - very misleading indeed!
And do NOT put extra in because it will only slow the burn rate of the furl!
Your best bet is to leave it and drive till the next fuel up or find a place that sells a real OCTANE Race fuel additive, like TORCO that will indeed raise your Octane to higher than 91+ Octane!
Thanks,Matt
while this is correct you do realize that slowing the burn is exactly what you're after with higher octane.
guys often use touline which is rated at something like 114 octane to get a real 93 octane fuel. add about 2 gallons of touline on a fill up of 91 and you have a lot less worries on the road course in 100deg heat

here's the short story on real detonation. like high rpm under load knocking.
you won't know it until you notice you're adding a quart of oil every 200 miles
normally ringlands go but the corvette has a pretty good knock sensor, i just wouldn't bet my life on it
in this cold weather with the engine kept out of load, like no pedal to the metal driving and or lugging it with the TB wide open up a hill you should have no worries with 10:1 compression and the LSx cylinder heads.
I've always thought of doing this on long road trips. I'm at low steady rpms anyway, then refill it back with 93 when the tank goes empty
This is what I thought until I tried it. Going to Watkins Glen in Sept. I topped off with regular, as I had heard it wouldn't matter and I was running Interstates. So I'm in 6th running 72mph and when I hit the mountain passes I could hear the valves pinging. Dropping to 5th and they quit. Of course running in 5th up the hills probably defeated the purpose of buying cheap gas. With premium it will pull a grade at 1500RPM like a locomotive with no complaints.
My buddy has a C6 and says he runs 87 with no problem but it's an automatic. His is a garage queen he seldom drives. 50K car you drive a thousand miles a year ...maybe.. and use regular cause it seems "OK" Sorry but I don't get that one.
Yep, I had to do the same. I'm the original owner of my 02 and never once in all the years of ownership did I ever put in anything but 93......until now. Was less than 1/4 tank and waited on line for almost two hours and when I get to the pump I find out only 87 was available. I had no choice but to fill it up since it was such a hassle finding a station with gas. I've been driving very gingerly and I have to say that I never reached 30+ MPG on the Avg before and I really don't feel any difference, but then again I'm driving a lot slower than normal trying to conserve as much fuel as I can. Happily as of today the gas lines seem to be pretty much history and I can't wait to burn through this tank and fill it up again with 93.
This would be the only octane additive I'd use: Not cheap . I think you'll be okay without it though, just don't be doing any racing til ya get some 91 or better in there.
