They already salted the roads in my area after our first light snow fall so my girl is hibernating until spring ...It's ok though, already started making a list of upgrades going to pick up over the cold months. Happy driving to those who still can
I'm in Michigan too.Two years ago I had the bad luck to follow a county road truck that had been applying experimental brine solution (salt substitute) before a storm. The damage it did to my truck was unbelievable. The entire underside was heavily rusted in a matter of days, fuel lines, brake lines rotted through and everything needed to be replaced. The air cleaner lid even had a hole rusted through the top where the brine sat. I'll never risk the corvette to that. It's sitting under a cover in a 55 degree garage.

Have you tried to get Collector Car Insurance? I qualified with Grundy and pay only $400/year which allows me to easily keep the insurance year round for days like these....go for it!

That's just criminal! Too bad you can't sue the government in small claims court. Just as bad is the dust control liquid calcium chloride they put down here on dirt roads in the summer. That stuff will do just as much damage as the winter brew.

Here in Ct they put down the liquid salt brine EVERY Friday from Nov-April on the interstate bridge decks, also mainline and backroads as the winter goes on. PLUS the salt and calcium chloride mix. The Northeast has one of the highest areas in the country for vehicle rust, because of this.

Though it hasn't snowed yet here in Iowa, the DOT has put down that liquid stuff on the bridges quite a few times. I'm not sure it will cause rust in just a few days, but I'm not taking that chance with the cars, just the Expedition.
And do you wash the underside of your car after you drive it? To each his own!
No. None of my other cars ever fell apart from years of daily driving in all kinds of weather. I'm just not **** about it. I'm not driving on wet roads mind you, but when the roads are dry I'm driving it so I don't worry about it.
Yea, here in central PA, we get some snow, but most years it's just sissy stuff. I have a friend in Oswego NY, he's right off the lake there. He sent me photos of his house once showing a LOT of snow. He's got a deck off the back of the house 10' from ground level. The snow was was so deep that from the roof line, it was a continuous line, there was snow 15-20' deep.
Once you see that, everything else is not very much snow... I've had enough some years back that the ball on top of my antenna was all that was visible of my car. But that doesn't happen here but once every 20 years.
I just got back from dinner, and unless it gets a lot nicer tomorrow, mines staying in. Lots of times we'll get a warm snap this time of year and might see 70F. Not looking like that in the forecast...
Oswego is brutal for "lake effect" snow, which is snow generated by the cold wind travelling over a slightly warmer body of water, which churns the water vapor, creating snow. Since Oswego is at the east end of Lake Ontario, and the wind blows west to east, they get hit hard, 2-3 times a year.
I live about 1.5 miles from the shoreline of Lake Ontario, and if the wind is "right" my town can get hit hard at times too....

The cooler air does give the car a nice boost, but it looks like mine is in storage for at least a while. That could change depending on how the winter goes though.
