I can't believe the Framers would have had any concept that firearms would be used in this manner or the advances in weaponery would have these types of arms in the general public. The loss of these innocent lives is devistating as well as those from the previous shootings. I will be interested in how our leaders come together to discuss and hopefully move forward with some form of action.
I discuss this with you. You take our guns rights away and you will start a new civil war. I am not a gun owner, but I believe in the 2nd amendment. I have talked to gun owners, and there is now way they will peacefully give up their guns or their rights. Our fore fathers knew the only way to take back control from an repressive government is to fight them and them means you need to have firearms. If our fore fathers did not have firearms, would there be a United States of America?

No one is taking anyone's gun rights away in this country. Not going to happen. I have no problem, however, with the government having stricter regulations on certain types of guns.

Heaven now has a new group of beautiful new Angels and Guardian Angels. If that demon is indeed in hell it's too good of a place for him, he got off too easy. Feckin coward.

And who decides what those "certain weapons" to be banned or whatever are? The Government? What could possibly go wrong?

Take five minutes. Sit down with your kid. Write a letter. Draw a picture. Make a card. Send it to them. Tell them you're praying for them. Tell them you're so sorry they're hurting. Tell them you love them.
Don't just say you love them on Facebook. LOVE them for real. ... Make your love tangible.

Pretty good advice I think. Think I'll be doing it as well....
One of the best posts so far in all the Corvette Forum threads about the terrible event that happened on Friday.

Guys, please don't keep arguing about whether we need more gun control or not. Please, start another thread if you want to debate.

Do a Google Image Search on "late 18th century firearms" to see what was available when the Second Amendment was adopted on Dec 15, 1791. Then do an image search on AR-15.

I wonder how the 2nd Amendment would be worded if proposed today.

I'll draw a parallel here and then I will stop posting on this thread. How about we all wake up tomorrow morning, and the EPA&DOT "declare" that because of global warming, CO2 emissions, smog and so on, ALL cars with engines larger than 3.0 liters are no longer allowed on public roads. They must be turned in and crushed, with no compensation. Good of the world-save the children-and so on. How would that sit with you? Well that's exactly what England and Australia did in the process of "banning" weapons. Don't comply-you're a felon. All I can say is we live in very STRANGE times. OUT.

Heck, I don't know. Someone should be able to figure something out.

I only own a shotgun I use for bird hunting, so I'm no expert.

My only question is, why would someone need a weapon with a high capacity clip? They don't.

Calm down, I'm not your enemy on here. I'm not advocating the banning of the Second Amendment.

The AR 15 type weapons are .223 which is basically a high powered .22. Also the whole reason of the right to bear arms was for the public to not be outgunned by the gov't, and if all these weapons were banned then it still would do nothing to stop this because the people who wouldnt own a firearm wouldnt be committing the crime anyways. Its criminals who are not allowed to buy firearms to poses firearms to begin with and would still get illegal weapons.
A better solution to the problem would not be to ban firearms but to teach firearm saftey and how and when to use them.

I have felt this is the best solution. Expensive, but best.

Peace be with those special little souls of Newtown, CT. Sad does not begin to describe how this has affected us up here. They were sweet innocent defenseless little children. What an unbelievable tragedy.

Instead of arguing over guns I think people need to look at the pharmaceutical companies and what kind of drugs are being used. Almost all these shooters are on some form of antidepressants. I wouldn't be opposed to some form of medical history report to be used to stop crazy people from buying them. Banning guns for everyone is a bad idea. The only people with guns will be the criminals. Plus the Second amendment was written to limit a tyrannical goverment from occuring like what happened between our forefathers and England

Gee guys, I started this thread to pray for the poor kids and their teachers who were murdered and for the families and friends who are left behind. I am as rabid a second amendment supporter as you can find, but please let's stop arguing and come together in this sorrowful time. We can kick the other topic around next week. Rod

I posted this on my facebook page earlier today, seems relevant to this discussion:

I don't make a habit of watching Sunday morning "news" programs, but this morning the TV was already on when I came into the living room. Worse yet, it was tuned into Meet the Press.

I find the sensationalism and the "lets ban all guns" slant on what now passes for "news reporting" to be very disrespectful to those who were killed in Sandy Hook on Friday. Facts are news. Commentary and opinion
disguised as news becomes nothing but sensationalism. This is especially true when it is pushing an agenda.
And yet in all the anti-gun rhetoric spewed by the likes of Bloomberg, Feinstein, and others today, not one person identified the root cause of the real problem facing America:

The erosion of our country's basic values.

I would have thought much more of NBC if they had briefly mentioned the Sandy Hook incident at the beginning of the progam, offered a moment of silence for the victims, then televised whatever program they had originally planned to show today before the events of Friday unfolded. Shame on them for turning this tragedy into an anti-gun pulpit.

Rod, we thank you for starting this thread in honor of those who perished on Friday. I’m sure that hundreds of thousands of threads in forums from aardvarks to zoology have been started in the hours and days after this horrible incident.

Unfortunately, what starts as a loving gesture on the part of a caring individual can morph into an argument of some sort. As I write this, there are probably thousands of similar threads that are now pitting Democrats vs Republicans, believers vs non-believers, global warmers vs Mayan calendars, etc.

Please feel proud that you reached out in a time of tragedy to ask for remembrance of the innocent victims and recognize that when such expressions turn polar, ironically the turning point begins from persons who just want to help.

And thanks again.

And that, in my humble opinion, leads to further similar events because the unbalanced people watched and saw how much it was talked about...they visualize themselves being talked about in the same way. So sad. Is there a solution? Probably not. If you take away guns, then the criminals will still have guns, the police will have guns, but no one else. If someone in the office at that school had been armed, could this possibly have been avoided? Not sure. Maybe the solution is locked doors during school hours. But my heart weeps for those who lost their loved ones. Please pray for them and for the rest of us.

Sorry but its story time. People talk about why was this person who has a mental illness allowed to walk the streets without getting the help he needs what drugs was he taking etc. My cousin could’ve done what this person did in Newtown. My Uncle had to sleep with one eye open he worried every night that the voices in his son’s head would tell him to kill in the night. My cousin had been locked away until President Carter said they all had rights. My Uncle tried to have his son held but my cousin had a lawyer thanks to Carter. I still can’t believe my cousin never killed anyone because he was BatSh*t crazy.

When you go to the Doctor, or to a hospital read the paper they have you sign. That paper allows them to only share your info with other Doctors not police. So unless they change the laws people(Won’t use his name) like this will be allowed to walk the streets, and keep killing others.
