When you take the peoples right to overthrow a regime in power.....you are SLAVES! When you ban assualt weapons..... you are SLAVES!

Some people make better SLAVES than CITIZENS!

Which side of the fence do you stand ? Free men, or SLAVES!

House slaves of generations past were content to be just that, are we not going down that same path?

If I can't have my assualt weapon at the ready..... I'm useless to my fellow citizen and family. Ban the politicians!!!!! They are a danger to our FREEDOMS!

On a somewhat positive note, it is good to know that statistically speaking, incidents like this are EXTREMELY rare. Our schools are typically very safe. Obviously, this isn't helpful for the parents of these kids in CT. My heart goes out to them.

The hardest part for me is the inability to rationalize this in any way, shape or form. But, I guess this nimwit was just like our C5's in a way. When the wiring in a persons brain has short circuits or opens (sorta like all the signal wires and grounds on a C5), this is the sort of thing that happens. This nimwit had an active handling problem lock up his brakes on one side and steered him into the big wreck. It isn't fixable. NOOOO amount of legislation is going to stop this sort of thing. We have 330 million people in this country (give or take a few), there are going to be nut cases out there, always have been, always will be.

For all you folks with the wonderful solutions via legislation... The WW2 Germans had a solution to things like this. Take all the mentally handicapped people and execute them. Of course, it spilled over into claiming anyone they didn't like was mentally handicapped and executing them too. Then, it got a little more out of hand, and a society that really didn't want such things, had already been disarmed with gun control, and was powerless to stop it. What? Think it can't happen again here? It's much easier now than it was then.

There is NO solution to things like this. none. If anyone here wants to drive their Vette through the doors at Sears and go up and down the busy mall on Black Friday, killing innocent people, guess what, that doesn't mean anything about me cause I own a Vette. Fact is, I also have a pickup, maybe some pickup owners are bad folks too, but again, that doesn't apply to me.

Btw, my guns have killed less people than Ted Kennedy's car.

It's so easy to say, "My heart/prayers goes out." How about this: Here's the address for Sandy Hook Elementary School: 12 Dickenson Drive, Sandy Hook, CT 06482.

Take five minutes. Sit down with your kid. Write a letter. Draw a picture. Make a card. Send it to them. Tell them you're praying for them. Tell them you're so sorry they're hurting. Tell them you love them. Don't just say you love them on Facebook. LOVE them for real. ... Make your love tangible.

Pretty good advice I think. Think I'll be doing it as well....
Great advice. Posted on my facebook page.

I would substitute "*****" for "Germans" considering my great uncle was German and died in WWII fighting the *****. He and his family fled **** Germany and then beared arms as an American citizen and joined the Allies to fight the oppression.

When our founding fathers drafted the second amendment, their goal was to make sure the American citizens could form a militia in order to prevent a tyranical federal goverment from abusing its power. They certainly did not envision semi-automatic weapons as "arms", however in the same vein, certainly did not envision the technology, monitoring tools and abuse of civil liberties currently used by the federal government.

For the government to possess high technology weapons and for the citizens to be only armed with hunting rifles is not the balance or intent of the second amendment.

This thread began with sincere concern for the families of those murdered in CT. It has actually become alarming. How many of the responders have seen up close and personal adults or children murdered or killed? Even TV people are talking about Uzis and machine guns who obviously don't know Bushmaster from a Glock. Yes, no one is going to take my weapons away; they are mine; purchased legitimately. Something must be done however and if you do not want your weapons to become illegal to own, you and I must suggest to our "wonderful" politicians alternatives to stop halfwits from gaining access to weapons.

So what is the difference between a German and a National Socialist? That is like saying that because I am a Republican or a Democrat, I am not an American. People joined that party much the same way you joined whatever party you are affiliated with. That doesn't mean you agree with all its views. Doesn't mean the party doesn't have some great ideas.

The point to be made in either of these cases is that it is individuals who perpetrate the acts. Get enough individuals with a sick idea, and you have a government. Look at womens rights in Iran following the fall of the Shaw. It's medieval. Over there they would be mourning the boys from the school...

Be thankful that our population finds this event to be an unthinkable horror. There are places in the world this would not be the case. That is what we need to prevent...

I really think in the upcoming days, the full story as to the "why" will be answered. I also suspect part of the reason will be a mixture of medication and treatment of the mental condition of the killer. The guns used were purchased legally and by the same person (mother) who was eventually killed by those same guns. There is also information being released that the mother was a survivalist who was concerned about an eventual economic collapse. All of this paints a picture about how innocent people can be killed by mentally disturbed and perhaps chemically altered people. The guns did not kill those people anymore than guns killed Osama Bin Laden or that cars kill people in drunk driving accidents. A sick and mentally disturbed young man killed those innocent children and adults. Just like the mall shootings, theater shootings, and Tucson shootings.

I agree with the President that we need to expand the dialogue and find solutions to try and prevent this from happening again. I just hope that dialogue includes examining the true root cause of these problems such as medication and the treatment of the mentally ill.

NO, the dialogue will center around ASSAULT weapons, because that is the POLITICAL metric.

God rest the souls of the victims. RIP.

My great uncle was neither. He left Germany so he did not have to make that choice. Some people turned a blind eye, while others acted.
