Default *** E15 Gas warning ***

If your CAR IS OLDER THAN 2012 you need to AVOID THE NEW E15 GAS that is showing up at gas stations.

Most car companies will not honor the warranty on your car if you use this new gas.

Thanks - and so far no gas stations are selling the E-15 gas here that I know of.

You can't avoid it.

The EPA has mandated that each person buying fuel must buy a minimum of 4 gallons of E15.

The EPA could care less about your warranty. The EPA, as well as concerned Americans, is looking out for our health and the environment.

That is the BIG PICTURE.

Old cars (older than 2010) and hot rods will, and should be, off the highways and only carried on trailers to car shows.

Right leaning link: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Governm...Fuel-Standards

Amazing both the left and right agree.

Oh, and in B4TL.....

yeah, well if you think 2010 is an old car, you need to think back to when you had a normal job like 95% of the country

my vette (the newest car i've ever been able to afford) was 10 years old when i bought it.

2010 model year being old is not my idea.

Granted, I did exaggerate a little on the Federal EPA banning vehicles older than 2010 model year.

But I see it coming in the not so distant future.

California EPA has already put a law on the books that bans all diesel trucks with a GVW 14000 pounds and up that is older than 2010 beginning in 2015 and fully implemented by 2023. Of course, they say you can drive an older truck if it has a 2010 or newer engine placed into it.

My completely factory stock 2002 Peterbilt semi is now illegal to drive in California effective 2013.

My point is the EPA is out of control. Most people don't really care though.

"The regulation requires diesel trucks and buses that operate in California to be upgraded to reduce emissions. Heavier trucks must be retrofitted with PM filters beginning January 1, 2012, and older trucks must be replaced starting January 1, 2015. By January 1, 2023, nearly all trucks and buses will need to have 2010 model year engines or equivalent."

From here: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onrdiesel/onrdiesel.htm

The EPA regulations are endless and only just really beginning. Forcing everyone to buy 4 gallons of E15 is just one of the idiotic steps.

I think the pcm in most cars should be able to compensate for slightly higher ethanol content by adding more fuel. Ethanol reduces our need for foreign oil, and is a renewable resource. Helps the american agriculture industry. In my old turbo car I would run e85 (and 22psi) all the time, although it wasn't stock of course. What's the big deal?

Have yet to see E-15 (15% Ethanol to 85% Gas) here in California locally!

Heck I wanted to change my Vette over to E-85 for better fueling on the Supercharger "BUT" it's illegal! go figure! Only in California you can't turn your older vehicle into a cleaner burning one without getting into trouble!

Thanks,Matt

I think I read that ethanol isn't put into premium gas so we should be OK with our C5s.

You might want to use premium in your other car also.

Cheers, Andy

Default E gas is for Ethanol

As a Chemical Engineer and a C-5 owner, I avoid ANY Ethanol in my gas. Sometimes I'm forced to use gas with 10% Ethanol in it, but I dilute it with straight gasoline as soon as possible. Ethanol is a government response to foreign crude oil costs, but the government labs know full well that Ethanol (being a pure Alcohol) is VERY corrosive and will ruin your vehicle unless your vehicle is plumbed with 316SS (low carbon) lines. Remember- "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you".

Around here E10 is everywhere. Even in the premium.

Ethanol blends may help for octane to allow huge boost pressures and advanced timing on modified cars with special tuning, but for the stock or nearly stock I don't like it.

Ethanol only has about 60% of the energy that gas does, so a 10% blend has about 4% less energy than pure gas.

For most of us it means about that much less power and mileage not to mention problems with corrosion and seals in older cars.

A 15% blend is even worse and I have heard that some manufacturers are starting litigation to limit it to 10%. I am not hopeful. I think the politics of ethanol will prevent us from having pure gas any more. That is sad, and I didn't vote for another 4 years of the current administration.

it's more about corroding lines & seals than adjusting fueling. the flexfuel engines are more than just bigger injectors.

depends on where you are & who's distributing it. tons of places are going to E10 everywhere i used to go down to the CO-OP back home & get E0, but the only stations i've been able to find since i joined the military (if i could find any at all) only had 87 ethanol-free

Unles your car is a flex fuel your PCM does not know what is in your tank.
