I wonder if his old unit and the one you shipped him have the same error when installed. If so, the problem is obviously somewhere else in the vehicle and could have damaged the unit you sent him.

Perhaps he should test both units in another functioning car to verify?

I bought a used 12 disc unit about 3 months ago and never plugged it in, decided to go iPod instead. If I were to plug it in now and find it doesn't work, there is no way in hell I would ask to return it. I should have verified operation when I first received it.

Used Electronics are always a gamble period!!!!

Thats why you pay a cheap price for it. could last a year, month, day, or even hours
Thats the risk you take

I personally would refund him the money only if i had the serial number or had some way of knowing it was the unit i sold him period

Also he should respect the fact that it looks like you could be being scammed from you point of view (getting his old unit back)

What the "heck" does daily driver have to do with a CD changer? After all that time I would not accept a return. When I sell something I always provide a return policy based on time (so far never had anything returned). I am getting ready to sell a C5 radio and I plan to set 2 week return on it because you have to actually go into the console, no so with the changer.

BTW: Record serial numbers or mark items in a way you can determine if you get back what you sent.

I would send him a quick note indicating that he should NOT send it back because there is nothing that you can do for him and if he does, it's his loss.

If he wants to try to drag your name through the mud, especially on here, let him. I'm sure you'll have many who will chime in with their two cents.

Sorry that you're in this mess. Hang in there.

You have no way of knowing what he did to it to make it non-functional. The fact that it did work initially - done deal! Caveat emptor.

I sent him this today:

I sent you a unit that was in working order. You installed it and E-mailed me it was working, end of story. If you send it back, expect nothing in return.

I definitely don't think you owe him anything back. As many others have said, it worked when he got it, it's his problem. However, if you took Payment through paypal, expect him to file a claim. I once sold an item on eBay, and I had thoroughly tested it and described it accuratly. About a month after the guy said it didn't work. I wouldn't take it back and he filed a paypal claim. I ended up winning the paypal claim as I proved that I sold a working item. He then shipped the item back to me totally destroyed and filed a chargeback with his credit card. Paypal basically said chargeback sorry and the money was gone from my account. I called them and they wouldn't do anything. In the end, I lost out, as I then had a destroyed item and no money. Hopefully that doesn't happen to you. I learned at that time that as a seller you always lose and there are a lot of crappy people out there.

If he feels that you "ripped" him off then why is he taking it so well? "See you on the forum rip me off?" If that was me AND I really had gotten a bad unit i wouldn't leave it at that. You did the right thing honestly.

Today I get this E-mail from him:

will be shipping back played 1 disc last sat went to err mode maybe you have another,or something elese i can use,i would have found out sooner but car is not daily driver, thanks XXXX

I XXXed out his name.

I don't know how to handle this. I sent him a working unit with no guarantee other than a working unit when it arrived. I also am sure he has a 'known' bad unit form his car that he removed, and I have no way of knowing he's not trying to send his old (non working) unit back to me. I've tried to be a good guy on this site, but I had folks attempt to take advantage of me from time to time, and I honestly think this is one of those times. He's had the unit well over a month.

I sent the unit to him for $85.oo shipped, spent roughly $10.00 on shipping.

FWIW, the only time I've ever seen a "err" come up on one of these is when the CDS is inserted upside down.
Sold AS IS used unit . Forget about it. It's easy to burn out electronics or damage it in another way. New units are usually only guaranteed for 90 days. This sounds like your being scammed . Should always mark parts that you sell.

I am a pretty easy going person and will give someone the shirt off my back, but I don't like being taken advantage of or someone taking my kindness for a weakness I feel like you should keep the money period end of story used parts are just that, there is nothing you could do to prevent a part from breaking in the future.

Again, I'd like to thank everyone for their opinions.
I think my conscience is clear. It did work for him when he installed it.
I'll mark stuff iin some way in the future (I do sometimes anyway) and actually may have on this,. but at 68 I may be getting forgetful. lol.

TRANSLATION...

I am sorry to hear that you will not take the unit back. I would not do business that way. I will be exposing you on the forum as a rip-off.

I am not sure if the guy is American but if he is he sounds too uneducated to ever understand the parameters of the business deal and is trying to bully you into taking the broken unit back. Ignore him.
