My car is a manual. I don't think the column lock is an issue with the newer C5 automatics. Looks like the LMC5 is ever evolving. I wonder if they are becoming more "car" specific with which model they send you or if this one doesn't work then try this one.......which seems to be the way it's been done in the past. One thing for sure seems to be most everyone raves about Richards customer service.
Rick said that the four wire works in some 6 speeds , can't figure why that is but apparently they want to get rid of the 4 wire units and hope they don't come back.
I bought mine from him a few months ago and have yet to install it. Partially because I have been busy and partially because it intimidates me. Its good to hear the company is top notch and customer focused.
The instructions are so detailed they are intimidating. The job itself is really pretty simple. Just follow the instructions and its no big deal. It seems like a common problem some people have is not ordering the unlocker when they order the LMC5. I'm guessing in those cases they have ordered off eBay and aren't aware they need the unlocker.
I spoke too soon my error message came back. I sent them an email waiting on a response.
Sorry it's come back for you, USA.
Coming late to this thread but have the problem big time on my 04 mn6 vert. Mine has had the recall and it recently started giving the pull key message. I've learned that if I turn the wheel some before inserting the key and hold a little turning pressure on the wheel when inserting the key I likely won't get the message.
LMC5 looks promising. Joining thread to keep tabs. Ordering LMC5 today. See what happens.
The vendor contacted me last night concerning my error message returning. He asked me to provide some additional information to help troubleshoot my issues. He seems to be a very knowledgeable and willing to help. I'm a little busy this week so it's on hold until this weekend. I'll provide an update soon.
just got mine in the mail today.
even after talking about mine being a manual trans, it looks like they sent a 4-wire version. i reckon it won't hurt to try it out first.
Just ordered mine after reading this thread. I've been getting the "service colum lock" message after the battery went dead a few weeks ago. I'm gonna get a new battery and instal the LCM5 just to be safe.
I talked to Richard today re: 5 wire LMC5 (By the way he has to be the nicest gentleman I've had the pleasure to speak to) he explained to me that not all BCM's are the same, and that it's a good idea not to connect any more wires to the BCM than absolutely neccessary and that approx. only 1% of the m6 cars out there will require the 5th wire, so it's best not to add the 5 wire version unless you happen to the in that 1% bracket.
I hope I got that correct, if not I',m sure Richard with chime in.
I may have missed it but if you hook up a 4 wire, how do you know if it's "good" or if you need the 5?
If you are still getting the pull key or column lock messages, it isn't working right. I've had the 4 wire in my manual shift car for about a year and a half. On very rare occasion I get the pull key message so I pull the key and start over.
I have the original C5 Solutions CLB from back in late 99 still going strong...I even have the cig lighter cord used to unlock the column if necessary its in the compartment rear driver side

Your prior post makes a lot of sense actually. Just wanted to be sure that's what you meant... tx
