Dept of Defense Civil Service worker. Started in 1979 outta college at Charleston Naval Shipyard and now at Fort Bragg. My youngest child is a senior in college so no retire yet. She may go to med school after this so my wife will let me know how much we're going to help financially. I've paid for three full college educations and spend a lot of money on food, gas, and vacations (Orlando). We love Universal Studios and Myrtle Beach if we're not home, that's where we are. In the near future, I need to start saving for retirement. Oh yeah, I love my red convertible corvette.

Not bad, over 125 posts in less than 24 hours
I too am in Information Technology.
Started with IBM in the late 70's and left there in the early 90's. A few longer term system's administration jobs until around 2003 or so and then mostly self employed (with a few longer term contract gigs thrown in) up to now.
I think realistic retirement will be in 10 years or so, less if I hit "the big one" and can treat myself to a new Lime Rock Green C7

I'm close to retirement "age". Doubt if I'll be able to retire when I get there though...
