Nitrogen filled tires???
Hi guys, just curious if anyone uses nitrogen in their tires rather than air? I'm not sure if it affects the TPMS, but I don't have mine anymore regardless.
I fill my tires to 122% of their intended final pressure, then let out 22% of it. That leaves me with 100% Nitrogen. The 22% I let out is the 21% oxygen and 1% miscellaneous gasses.

That's a brilliant idea, although it didn't work out so well for the hindenburg. How bout nitrous oxide? You could either go faster or giggle the whole trip
Search for past threads on this. Nitrogen filled tires are an ingenious solution to a non-existent problem. If a tire goes low, and they do, you have to find a place that fills with Nitrogen to replace it. And if it's not the place where you originally purchased this wonder product you will pay about $25.00 for the service.
In any case the tires will always still have some Oxygen in them because you can't vacuum purge the tires before fill up.
I ran Nitrogen for a few years in my DD. There is absolutely no difference between a 90+% fill of Nitrogen than the traditional, ubiquitous and free 76% Nitrogen, 22% Oxygen, 2% Misc. fill up.
Nitrogen fill up is a gimmick to sell more $hit.
Although, you do get cool little green valve caps to lecture people about when they say, "wazzit?"
Nitrogen is suppose to stay stable without fluctuation. Do you notice any difference in ride at all?
No. Boyles law. Pressure varies with temperature, same as any other gas. Base upon my several years forced* experience with Nitrogen, it still fluctuates. The temp/pressure curve may be different for individual gasses, but...
Guns
*Durn techs put in Nitrogen without asking when I bought a new set of tires. I stupidly spent another $50-75 bucks over the next two years until I learned (I ain't the brightest bulb in the chandelier!) to just refill with the free stuff. GJ.
Nitrogen atoms are bigger than oxygen atoms, so they're less likely to pass through microscopic holes in the tires.
You don't need to worry about topping off the tires with regular air at the pump. What little oxygen that's entering the tire is not going to offset the nitrogen by much.

Finally, someone with the correct answer.
I get nitro filling for free. However, they nitrogen filled tires in fact, keep your tires at a more stable pressure over time because the molecules are larger and harder to 'bleed out'. Adding a bit of 'free air' would not be a problem due to the ratio involved, however they will need adjustment less often.
For those that don't believe this, do a bit of reading on what causes the 'bends' for scuba divers.

I'm ok, never gonna snorkel my vette......oh that's another thread.
