160 posts over an emblem. Guess they must truly hate me because I have c6 z06 wheels on my car. Kinda feel amish. Hope I don't get shunned by the community.
I use to go to driving events with the corvette club. They are ok to me... but some of the older owners make comments about my wheels, my super charger, and other mods.
I do a lot more events with the Porche club. They respect the real power of a modified corvette. They drive fully modified Porches and see these cars as race cars, not some classic Duesenberg.
I just have a lot more fun with the Porsche guys. I don't want a Porche,
I want my Chevrolet LS1, it just happens the corvette has the best suspension
and balance of any Chevy.
I think I will order C6 emblems for my C5 just to irritate that group.
My Foose wheels do a pretty good job of upsetting them.
Interesting post. I personally like the looks of the new C7 flag badge.on the C5. If they where made for the C5 back then they would have looked totally normal. To me the newer flags are used for an appearance enhancement as are newer wheels, wide fenders, gs stripes, and any other part that makes your C5 more personal and enjoyable to own and drive. These newer extras are not added to some C5's to try and pose as a different era car but to make a personal enhancment to the car we all fell in love with. If I had a special edition C5 that sat in the garage and only was driven a few thousand miles or so a year and wanted to keep it all original then I would not change anything on it. I love to drive my car and I've added.a lot to mine to personalize it to my liking. A lot of the insperations for my mods came from this very forum. So I guess my car has an identity crisis. A C5 with C6 and C7 influences. All in all its still a C5 and will always be a Corvette.
Haha, there are different stereotypes for different Vette owners. The older guys are "Typical old fart Corvette owners" and the young ones (like me) are "I wish my mommy and daddy would buy ME a corvette!"
Hey, I resemble that remark...What's wrong with being an Old Fart Junior? Your day will come.LOL
Hey Tinman - Do what you want - it's your car. People are entitled to their opinion, even if they are wrong. I like the looks of it myself, it is a very cool and streamlined logo.
BTW - This is one of my favorite hood ornaments of all time. I won't be putting it on my Corvette, but if it served to **** someone off, or stir the pot over something so trivial, I just might

And this why I love this forum post like these I will share pictures later it's your car do what you want just don't ask us for our opinion cuz we sure will share it
I'm rebuilding my 76 Stingray and plan on having something from every generation incorporated in the design. C5 seats, rear taillights and side marker lights, C1 gas cap emblem on gas door, C2 grill teeth, C4 side mirrors, C7 stingray emblem. Haven't decided what from C6 yet but will probably be an adaptation of the door panels and the instrument panel. And will probably add some additional things that specifically fit the C3 design. This probably drives the purist nuts but I think it will make one unique custom vette.
well, guys are quick to put on C6 wheels in the name of "upgrades"?......I just don't get the whole idea of being something your not. That's just my 2 cents and actually I am Canadian so I think I owe you some change!!!!!!!
The simple truth of the mater is that only 5-7% of Corvette owners
ever modify their cars in any way shape or form.
The over whelming majority of Corvettes are simply bought and driven
as they are presented from the factory.
Most Corvette owners don't even know what the designation C5/C6/C7
even is. I talk to customers every single day and when I ask them "
is your car a C-whatever" Without fail they answer "What's that mean"
If you are worried about the 5% who would notice, then don't do it.
If you would care less if 95% of the people that would look at it
and never know there was anything different about it - Then rock on
Regards
Chip
Where'd you get the 5 -7% figure. In our corvette club I know of only one guy who has not done a mod and that's a trailer queen C1
Just saw that Corvette Mods is selling a C7 rearend clip that goes on the C5. Comes with lights and everything except paint. The purists are definitely turning over in their graves
Lol everybody gets so uptight on here about little ****. I'm not new to Corvettes, but I have stayed away from them for the simple fact that majority of the owners have been ****** that are narrow minded. Thats why i stayed with Fbodys for so long. Its not like i was badging it with the Stingray emblems and trying to pass it off as a C7 because its not. The flag design just interests me. Everybody on this forum needs to just take a damn breath and relax because I have seen some horribly gaudy stuff done to Corvettes that pass for normal to the older generation.
i can't believe someone would not buy the car they wanted because they didn't like other owners. And if you feel like that why did you change your mind and buy one now.

No kidding.... isnt that more wrong then an emblem. Are they not just changing the wheels to make people think they have a c6 and to feel better about not being able to afford a c6?
And what about brakes? Are these guys changing the brakes cause they cannot afford a C6 and want to trick people into thinking they have a C6?
Its a stupid logo... why Corvette owners care so much is beyond me.
Badging is not the same as wheels or brakes.
And car enthusiasts are likely feel that badges belong on the generation/model cars they came on no matter whether they are Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, etc. enthusiasts.
You asked for opinions and got several. Why so defensive TinMan? You want'em, go ahead and slap a pair on your Vette. It matters not to us what your tastes are.
As far as the comment on Vette owners being ****** and narrow-minded, I've only experienced the opposite. I've made a lot of good friends via this hobby, and your experiences seem to be to the contrary. Not saying there aren't Corvette-owning jerks out there, but I've found them to be in the minority. Comments like yours are typically coming from non-Vette owners.
Enjoy your new emblems. I'd like to see what they look like, too, not that I'd put them on my C5.
Just remember a majority of other Vette owners will assume you're a ricer.

No, they won't
Most won't even really notice why it's catching their eye at first unless they've owned that particular generation

You're right, badging isn't the same thing... And neither is putting a newer emblem on
Putting ZR1 badges on a non-ZR1 is lame
Putting a C7 emblem or wheels on a C5 or C6 is a subtle styling update
TheTinMan moved on... apparently he got a C6 and there is NO evidence of C5 or C7 badging on it...hmmmm
IF he gets a C7 I wonder if he'll put C5 badges on it for a subtle cosmetic change...
I did move on to a C6Z lol, but i still follow this thread and read what people put and i'm glad that there have been a few more people follow suit and badge the car with C7 emblems. If i keep my C6Z i'll probably end up with C7Z wheels on it and the competition seats. At the current moment though i'd like to sell it and find an older car as a project to restomod.
As for why I let the owners of vehicles keep me from wanting to buy a particular car, i dont really have an answer other than the fact that car owners tend to congregate around their particular car type. I'm still finding plenty of Corvette owners all the time that talk **** about me because i'm young, I have raced my Corvettes, and I even had two older gentlemen come and slap me on the dick *figure of speech* because I was sitting on my hatch at a car show and apparently sitting on a Corvette is sacrilege lol.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
