Default C5 Front Side Marker Lights

Newbie Here!! Just joined. Love the info on this site.

Just purchased my first Vette which is a 98 C5 Convertible.

Love the car and had a question on how to swap out the front side marker lenses as both have some scratches and would like to put new ones on.

Figured this would be a great place to start asking any questions I have on this car.

Any info would be appreciated Thanks Again.

Thanks for the instructions. It appears these lenses can be swapped out with a new ones without removing the wheels. Is this true?

Just looking for the easiest approach to swapping out the lenses without tearing the entire front end apart. Thanks again.

I didn't need to remove the wheels but I certainly needed a lift to get under

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the front fascia lower closeout panel.

4. Remove the front turn signal lamp bracket retaining spring from the lamp bracket.

Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Tighten
Tighten the front park/turn signal and sidemarker lamp to bracket retaining screws to 2 N•m (18 lb in).

7. Install the front turn signal lamp bracket retaining spring to the lamp bracket.

[QUOTE=DeeGee;1586895857]Not sure what you have so far but this is the book procedure if it helps

I thought I seen somewhere on the net where someone pulled the wheels and took out part of the wheel well liner to get the part changed. I'd rather not do that if possible and from what I'm reading I don't need to with your instructions.

Yes the instructions do help and these cars are sooo low that yes I will need to pull it up on ramps.

I purchased the car from my dad who gave me the ramps and everything needed to raise the front end in order to change the oil.

I guess I will have to put the ramps to use when I do this side marker lens swap. Now I know why he put off changing it.

After initially looking at it, I thought this might be a dealer item to have replaced but maybe I can tackle it with some patience using the instructions you provided. Thanks so much for them as this will help out a ton and hopefully save some time.

Removing the wheels is not required. Run it up on the ramps and remove the lower panels as described in the instructions. Once you see how everything is currently installed and what you need to remove it will all fall into place.

I followed DG's directions, and the swap was about as easy as it can be without pulling the whole car apart. Got my new ones on Ebay

Did the same swap to mine earlier this year. Not hard to do, just a bit time consuming. Follow the instructions DeeGee sent and you'll do just fine.

Update.

Just completed the swap of the passsenger side marker lens.
DG's instructions were spot on and appreciate the time you spent sending them.

Overall it took a little time to get everything removed and installed as there isn't much room to do much. Pretty much feeling around to get bolts removed and started again but at least its done.

While I had the car on the ramps I installed new center, left/right skid shields. The rubber was a little worn and scraped on the others but figured why not put new ones on. I know its only a matter of time before my new ones get all screwed up as well.

Car is just so low that it scrapes on just about everything but rather have those get scratched then the front fascia.

I noticed my drivers side marker lens is now scratched and cracked so I went ahead and ordered another replacement. Once the part arrives we will be repeating the same steps 1 more time.

Thanks Again everyone with helping me on my first repair job. Have a Great Day!!

Good to hear the first mod is coming along. Once you start, more will follow.

Saw your on the east side of CLE, still have relatives in the Mentor/Kirtland area. Might look you up if I take the 98 up there this summer.

Sounds Good. Was checking out your ride in the Gallery and man is that a nice car. Love the Rims. What is this program about? NCM's R8C option program

R8C is the vehicle option code designating National Corvette Museum delivery. You order the car through your dealer, but take delivery at the NCM in Bowling Green, KY along with a personal tour of the assembly plant across the street. I did it back in 98, and two other times with a friend to pick up his 2006 and 2010 C6's. Hope to someday do it again.
