let me first say that I did knowingly slowly roll through it. however, the car in front of me didn't even stop. yet I get pulled over. the officer was sitting right there and saw both of us do it. I stopped but not completely. you know when you stop but don't stop for 5 seconds? well he turned his light on and I asked him if he saw the other car and he said yes. so I asked why he pulled me over and all he did was tell me to stay quiet. wrote me a ticket and walked away. ok, now I know I did it, but come on...he could have given the person in front of me a ticket also. plus that's a $335 ticket. so do not ever ever ever roll through a stop sign. its not worth it.
I'm not telling you which way to go, but I promise you the "the other guy did it worse" defense doesn't work with a judge. I'd modify my explanation if I were you, maybe to "I feel like I came to a complete stop your honor"
when you go to court it doesn't matter what you say 10 out of 10 times the cop is right according to the judge, unless you have video evidence...C'MON MAN you know cops never ever lie or twist the truth! (serious sarcasm)
Well, first of all sorry you got a ticket....BUT, if you haven't learned by now how to come to a complete stop, then yes, if a cop is watching you might, most likely will get cited. I don't know about your area but in Virginia it's getting way out of hand, no one seems to think you have to come to a complete stop. I mean, have the laws changed? Is it the new generation that thinks I'll do what the he!! I want? Another thing are the red lights. In most places it's right-on-red after you stop, not roll through it. Usually, all of us get what we deserve, good & bad.
Did you stop or not. If you did not stop it doesn't matter if 500 people didn't stop. The fact is you did and got a ticket. Now don't get me wrong I am not saying I or you should not roll through a stop sign. But if you are going to do things like that you had better be very observant or pay tickets.
My wife was pulled over for not coming to a complete stop and told the officer her speedometer read "0" so she figured she was not moving. He let her go. True story.

You said you were guilty of not stopping completely, so your defense is pretty much shot. Yes, the LEO could have stopped the other driver too, but sorry to say he didn't. Next time, make a complete stop. It could be a lot less expensive for just a few seconds.

I agree. Not stopping, running yellow light, violate and be willing to accept a ticket. Forget the Whyyyyyyyyy Me - Just man up!
I got a similar ticket once. In my case my car actually rolled backwards a bit (bright red Firebird). I saw the officer and was shocked when he pulled me over. He ended up telling me he "could see my wheels still slightly rotating" and gave me a ticket. Now when I see them, I count "one one thousand, two one thousand" before taking off. That way, there is no question or argument on being stopped completely

Once I was driving down a three lane road in the middle lane and a car on each side of me. Cop pulled me over and wrote me up for going 45 in a 35.
When I mentioned the other two cars and why he didn't stop them he said "Because your the one I picked that's why!"

I was with my dad years ago when he got pulled over for 70 in a 60 zone, maybe ten seconds after two cars and a motorcycle had blown by doing somewhere upwards of 90. At least the cop was honest about it: when asked "why me?", he said, "The others would have taken too long to catch." (Could have been worse: ended up with just a warning.)
