So, hypothetically, you are taking advantage of a c5 owner who is down on his luck?
That's nice.
So lets see if I have "YOUR" thinking right here. This guy is going to have his C5 repossed on Tuesday of next week, have a blemish on his credit for X number of years for the repossession, and come out of the deal with all negatives. He comes to me and asks me if I would take over the payments of the car so he can avoid having it taken away from him, still owe the difference of what the bank gets for it wholesale and what he owes. That could put him in further debt for what ever amount that difference is. I tell him no I would not take over the payments, but I would consider just paying it off in full.
So you tell me were that is any way or form of me taking advantage of the man? You should be so lucky as to have someone who would be willing to do that for you.

Sports car has to be manual. No ifs ands or buts; it will kill the deal. I track my car and daily drive it in the traffic without once wishing I had an automatic. Even on the worst "move 10 feet in 2 hrs" kind of days. Always having to do something keeps me involved in the drive and aware of my surroundings. People in Europe experience traffic much worse than anything on your US roads and they get along with their manuals just fine. If they can do it, I can do it.
Babes dig a dude who can rip through gears.
My friends and family would disown me.
My only (realistically achievable) exception to this is the R35 GTR which only comes with a DCT. However, nothing would be stopping me from importing a R34 V-spec which would totally be worth it to slam 6 gears despite sitting on the wrong (or to the rest of the world, right) side of the car.
Well guys I kinda screwed the pooch with my first Poll. Maybe if you do vote you can also say if Tranny choice or lack of Tranny choice is a deal killer. That is what I really want to know, would you not buy a certain car if you had to settle on the Tranny choice?
RS
The REAL question is it a deal killer for you? The fact that you are even asking the question tells me that it is not!
It sounds like you have found the perfect car, and that the transmission is not that big of a deal for you. There is your answer. If I read your question wrong, then you have your answer as well.
I find it curious that actual sales % (2004 for instance) was polar opposite from the responses to this thread. What accounts for that fact? And will it impact your sale?

Personally, I think that's being pretty reasonable of you to make the offer. Yes, the owner might lose a little money up front, but over the long run, he'll be better off if he takes your deal. having said that, I think it all depends on how much you have to spend, to take possession of the car. There's always a buyer for any car, as long as the price is reasonable.

I would think IF you can buy the car under book, you would probably be able to make a few bucks on it. There will always be guys like me that wouldn't consider buying a stick. But there will always be guys that won't buy an auto too.
I was really wanting an auto but never found the right package, price, color ect so I bought a 6 speed 2001 and I like it but at 64 yrs old I would buy an auto if both cars were side by side with same package. U will never have clutch issues, slave issues, clutch fluid change, shifter issues, tob issues with an auto, all will cost you several $$$$$ if you ever have issues.

It's not an absolute deal-breaker for me, unless we're only talking about C5's then yes, I highly prefer a manual. I bought an '86 Corvette last year and it would've been a deal-breaker had it been manual. I can't stand that Doug Nash 4+3. Most all of the time if I'm purchasing a sports car then a manual tranny is a high-priority, no matter how many speeds.
When I bought my 04, I didn't even look at autos. I prefer an auto in my daily driver, but my Vette had to be manual. In my opinion an auto disconnects you somewhat from the car, and takes away from the overall driving experience. At least for me.
You have been misleading in your posts and after reading some of you other posts I am pretty sure that I will never give you any advice again. And YES, this "clown" thinks you are taking advantage of a c5 owner that is down on his luck.

I am not sure if I understand your plan either. Assuming you can flip this car for more money than it takes to pay off the loan who gets this excess? If the answer is you do then I too feel you are taking advantage of a fellow Corvette owner down on his luck. If the answer is that your "non-friend" gets the excess he is indeed lucky to have someone doing that for him.
Does not get any more black and white than this.
I do not see the automatic as a deal killer. For some buyer this is a plus, for other the manual is a plus. You just need to find someone that see the auto as a plus. You can check the blue book and see if this affects the prices much, but my guess is that it does not.

Another curiosity Q is the new C7 Z06 optioned with 8-speed automatic. That does not compute for me. What's the point? Your welcome to disagree.

I wouldn't even look to buy a c5 if it was an auto, when I was looking I only wanted a z and luckily those are all 6spd cars... a lot of serious drag racers are converting theirs to auto but I'm not that serious about dragging and there's no way in hell I'd swap mine to an auto, it would literally take away most of the fun of driving the car in my opinion
Auto here. Mostly drag raced. Best for that IMO. And nice in traffic. I do think manuals are fun and better for the most part. Like the fuel economy from a manual 4 cyl car. I wouldn't change what I have in my C5 though.
Both options are great and have pluses and minuses. A lot of guys think a manual is a must for others to think they have a big *****. But realistically, there is a very good call for both options.
