Saw a white c7 on way to school today and got a good look at it. It's pretty sharp looking. My goal has been to get a c6 as soon as I graduate and get my first nursing job. But honestly I don't see much difference from the c5 to c6. Besides head lights. There's nothing I can't do to my c5 to make it as fast as one of them. Now I say all this with ever having sat in a c6 of a c7 so I'm sure that might change my opinion.
The point of the thread was to generate discussion about aesthetics, not performance. I presume that the C6 is a better performer than the C5, and the C7 beats the C6 easily. But which is the prettiest girl, not the fastest?
I would rather look at it by year and stay away from generation.
-1963-67 (preferred) coupe or convertible
-1958-60
-1956-57
-1953-55
-1960-62
-06-13 ZO6/ZR1 (I know the zr1 started in 09)
-1999-04 FRC/Z06 only
-1990-95 ZR-1 only (really don't like the 90 as much as 91-95)
-c7 (2014-present) while I don't like them much now, they will grow and they are very impressive.
-Run of the mill c6, non z06/zr1 c6 (05-13)
-1968-72 coupe or roadster
-Non FRC c5 (1997-2004)
-1991-96 c4
-1973, 1980-81 tied for me. I don't like them but they aren't all that bad
-Run of the mill c4 (1984-90)
-Run of the mill c3 (1974-1979)
And this is coming a 24 year old. Classics to the top!
As a C6 owner I must say...the C7 is the best looking Vette. Why? Because it's 2014! Let's get it out of the way; the C8 will be the best looking Vette until the C9. A better approach is to consider which one looked more impressive or had the biggest impact at the time it was introduced. I think the C5 wins that one! It was a big deal!

Looks only:
C7, C6, C5, C3, C4, C2, C1
The newest is not always the best when it comes to everything.
C7 styling? Derivative. Look at it head on, and you can't tell it apart from the latest Viper - the lights and the air opening are the same. I personally think the Viper is better looking than the C7 - it looks like it was styled as a complete package, not like the C7 with the rear end looking like it was designed by someone else. Same guy who did the Camaro rear maybe......
The best looking cars (from the rear - that's what everyone else see, right?) IMO are the 71+ era cars, with the Kamm tail styling. The C5 styling's only "glitch" is the rear view - the center exhaust, and the wide flat top to the rear bumper leaves the rear view just not in proportion to the rest of the car. Hence all the big butt comments. The C6 is a bit more angular in general, but I do think the rear is better than the C5. The front, however, not so much.
Overall? C5. I like my cars sleek and smooth. It would take a major revamp of the rear styling to get me to buy a C7 - it just looks too much like it just escaped from a video game.

Maybe you can't tell the difference, I sure can, In my opinion they are close, But one can sure tell the difference. Now we really don't have to worry the Viper seeing it is going to be history. The Viper still looks like a clown shoe.
My last vette was a C5, don't care for the C7 at all. Mate was at work with his 1980 L82 (what C is that). He parked it next to my clown shoe for some pics. Now the L82 really is beautiful.

Maybe, maybe not...sounds like wishful thinking for some, since you are so worried. Viper production is always a mystery...remember no production in 2007, 2011, 2012. In the meantime, tunes are starting to emerge for the Gen 5, with initial gains of 50+hp on a tune alone. Bolt-ons are predicted to send the hp well north of 700, while remaining naturally aspirated.

1980 would be a C3 (Produced 1968-1982)
Nice Viper !
I saw this one go across the block at this year's Mecum Indy auction. Beautiful car.
Builder used to live across the street from a coworker of mine. Talked with the builder and his wife at the auction. Their new home is all garage on the lower level - the background of this pic. He used to build cars while doing his day job working for UPS. Now he just builds these beauties...

Toque
If I see him again I will!
I imagine he'll be bringing at least one more car to Mecum Indy this coming May. They were a bit nervous before it crossed the block - they were selling it at no reserve. I'm sure he had a lot of money in it, but with it selling for over a quarter million I'm sure they want to try to do a repeat...
It's funny - I eat lunch with my coworker who used to live across the street from them. My coworker isn't a car guy - he drives a Honda CRV or something. But he told me more than once I ought to come over a see some of the stuff his neighbor was working on. I never did it and he built their new house. I saw this car in a Mecum Monthly magazine before the Indy Auction and noted the builder was out of Bloomington, Indiana, and quickly wondered if that might be my coworker's previous neighbor. Sure enough it was.
My bachelor coworker knew he was building nice cars, but he much preferred chatting with the builder's attractive wife about anything she wanted to chat about...
