If your BSM's are getting dinged, you're getting too careless because you have them. "I have BSM's so I don't have to worry where I park." Bull! I own my '03 Z since new, it now has 130K miles on it, it also does not have even one door ding. Using good instincts, I park in such a way to not be subjected to other people's irresponsible door opening yet not so obvious to make me ding me on purpose because I was an as-h. BTW, the aero effect of BSM's started as a joke.

I dont park in tight spots I'll look for one next to a nice cars, when I park away from the crowd and come back to my car i've found cars parked very close, ice cream on my hood, some ones beverage tossed all over the side even a McDonald bag on my trunk (very aggravating) once I even found my SUV that was customized boxed in by 3 cars so close I could not get in but my friend was there with is 4x4 and happen to have a chain in the bed yup we dragged one and left it in the middle of the aisle not the smartest way to deal with it but I felt a lot better
here in the Chicago area I guess there is a ton of haters? jealous? jerks? not sure what it is? i just park in the crowd away from beaters
My car came with them and would be with out them. If your out there looking for a car to buy, you should be looking for one that has them, they are easy to remove and you'll have a car with clean doors.
Hmm wonder if we may have been at the same dealer on Friday if your west coast. It was disappointing in the fact i never really got to "see" the car. They let people drape all over it while waiting in line to sit in it so no one could see a thing except a fender at a time by pushing your way through the mob.
That being said, I dig the car. Everything looked like I expected and was great to confirm what the wheels, seats, etc. were gonna be. Also was able to confirm what my color will look like on multiple c7s they had in stock (yikes that was a lot of C7s to sell). Also got to check out the ZR1s they had in the stock so that was sweet.
Overall worth while trip. As to your point, to each their own and I don't know why you would ever buy anything you don't like so definitely don't buy one. I agree with the side scoop comment its just weird and looks wonky with the door open. But the rest of the car done right is gonna look badass. To me that bright blue just wasn't it. I was really hoping I'd get to see the orange and white cars i've seen floating around via pics.
I'm new to the forum, but pretty sure buying a NSX would be considered sin lol.

Um, yeah, this thread is five years old and I think you posted on the wrong forum. If you could repost in the C8 section, that would be great!
Garage queens and show cars don't need this option. Unfortunately many C5's are in this category. I just got back from Walmart ten minutes ago and I'm glad to have BSM on my vert because I drive it.
I know this is an old thread but the question was never answered, so I will try.
Back in the day these cars were selling and dealers were ordering them for stock.
Unlike the outgoing C7 Z06, there weren't very many options available back then, and we know how dealers like options.
Plus they add down force.
Since we've revived this thread, I've never bought into the door "protection" that BSMs offer. Because the car sits so low, most door dings will be above the BSM where the door panel extends. The side mirror is also probably more prone to damage than the section of the door the BSM is adhered to. Even when I park my C7Z next to my C5 vert, the BSM doesn't protect the door.
So for me, it comes down to looks. I do think the car looks cleaner without them, however I've been indifferent about them since I bought the car new in 2004 out of dealer inventory and they were already installed. On occasion, I still get the itch to remove them, but then I choose to go for a drive instead.
