Quick question... Every time I start my Vette, it's automatically in "Competitive Driving" mode. Is this normal? Even if I turn the car off, the next time I start my Vette it's in Competitive driving mode.
i've never asked but can this be tuned. i came across another c5 thats started this way and i know it's not stock, but, it's do-able somehow, i just have never asked how

I know they make a switch to turn tc on when the car is started but I'm pretty sure it's not a tunable feature.
Could previous owner have installed a module to manipulate the status. I'm saying that because I do not like TC so I purchased a module that keeps it from turning TC on everytime I start the call. It is always OFF. My 97 does not have Competitive mode. But I know there are some module out there.
"The TracActive Controller, manufactured by LapTrax, Inc., is a simple-appearing little device that allows C5 drivers the option of having the car start in either "TRACTION CONTROL-OFF" or "COMPETITION MODE" (with Active Handling) rather than always starting with the ASR activated and having to manually disable it. When installed, the TracActive Controller is operated via the factory control switch in the center console, and switching back to "TRACTION CONTROL-ON" is as simple as pushing the button.
There are two versions of the unit, a "standard" and a "Deluxe" system; the difference being a fourth wire, which connects into the DIC (Driver Information Center) switch panel and automatically overrides (resets or clears) the "TRACTION CONTROL-OFF" or "COMPETITION MODE" message that reads out on the DIC....."

Interesting.... That is probably what it is then... I Still keep in touch with the previous owner so I will check with him to see if he installed the aftermarket part

Yes, this is what it is. I'm the original owner of my C5, and I installed a module on mine (passenger side kick panel is where it is accessed) that does this. I love it b/c I don't ever drive my car without being in Comp Mode. It's been so, so long ago, I couldn't even tell you what it is called or who sells it.

Gonna order one!!! Nothing like piloting 668rwhp when stepping on it and going wtf just happened when you feel like someone is pulling the car from behind because you forgot to turn comp mode on..

I'd think learning how not to forget would be the more logical choice. The safer one too.
Tie a string around your finger? Use a Post-It note? Write it on the rear view mirror with a Sharpee?
For anyone who was curious.. I finally got around to checking by the passenger foot well and sure enough this was installed by the previous owner.. Personally I don't see why anyone would want this installed. I'll probably remove it
