That's right, it's all because of the RUNFLAT tires that makes the C7 "beat the snot out of everything out there."

Hey madness, I've got some ocean-front property in Arizona for sale if you're interested. I'll make you a great deal on it!

Goodyear has given the runflats a bad name. If that's the only runflats you have ever experienced, then I would truly hate them too. I really like my PS2's, but not as much as the Kuhmo runflats I had. These are both fairly quiet tires with good grip and pretty durable.

GM put them on the C7 the same reason they put them on the C5. Staggered sized tires and no spare, not because they were the best tire for performance.
Runflats are not for everyone. I bet a lot of runflats come off the C7s just like the C5s.

All through this topic i have been quoted a few times. I have never in these threads about run flats ever criticized anyone about what they buy or why they buy them. Again it is about choices. I have owned my car 17 years and I choose to buy and use run flats. I have a quality set of tires on my car that I am happy with. To each there own. It has nothing to do with all the reasons that some of you think fits my situation.

I never criticized anyone either. I just pointed out the benefits and problems with both types of tires. I made the choice that is the best for me and I understand why some folks want runflats.

I love this. Isn't this more exciting than someone asking what their next mod should be? I love this! The C5 Forum has become my hobby. I'm retired now so I can do this. This some of the best forum reading we've had in awhile.

Default Runflats

I had Goodyear run flats on my '00 FRC, '07 and '10 GS. I couldn't wait to get ride of the Goodyears. I put non run flat Toyo Proxies on the FRC first. No noise, great handling and lucky me, I never got a flat.

I took the Goodyear run flats off the '07 at 19k miles and put Michilen A/S3's on, night and day difference. That got rear ended by a lady before I could put 1k miles on them. They were great, quiet and stable compared to the OEM run flats.

Then we have the ''10 GS. At 9k miles I couldn't live with the darting around the road when hitting bumps/cracks or anything else. I put Bridgestone RE050's on and once again it was night and day. No longer scary to drive. The tires grip well, are quiet and still give me the security of run flats.

Bob K.
BTW! My wife's BMW 650 came with the same Bridgestone RE050's.

Hi Frank, I'm a Frank too. Can I be Frank with you? LOL

If anyone wants run flats then get them. No biggy to me. It's your car so do it. As for me, I had several reasons for switching and thought about my options for a while before leaving RF's. Here's my thoughts:

Someone pointed out earlier that the main reason people switch from RF's is because RF's are so expensive. Well if someone can't afford a set of run flats then they have no business buying a Corvette. I think for a lot of us that switched, money was not the issue.

1. I got tired of feeling like I was driving a jack hammer. With run flats I felt like I could feel every single bump on the road.
2. I never liked the idea of hearing tire noise over the roar of the engine.
3. I didn't like having to yell to have a conversation with the person riding with me because of my run flats.
4. I couldn't stand the feeling of the hard tires. Ask anyone who has ever switched from RF's to "real" tires and they'll know what I'm saying.
5. Before anyone switches ask yourself this: When was the last time you had a flat? I've been driving 41 years and I've never had a flat. Sure, I've picked up nails and/or had slow leaks, but I drove to a tire store and got them fixed before they became flats. Now, if someone is the kind of driver that gets flats often, then by all means, do NOT switch from run flats. In fact, if you drive on bad roads that give a lot of flats, why buy a Corvette? Perhaps that person should consider a truck.
6. Most new cars today do not come with a spare and they don't come with run flats either.

I switched because I weighed all of these things and for me, it was best for me and I'm thrilled with the results. If someone doesn't want to switch for any reason then don't. Bottom line, enjoy driving your Vette the way you want to drive it.

Frankly, (sorry couldnt resist) I agree with every point you make Frank. I didnt know the difference until I put non run flats on and could not believe the difference and price had nothing to do with it, I paid more for the non run flats than the Bridgestone run flats cost.

Default Frankly I don't give a dam. Lol

I have had run flats from the start, and do not know what it is like with non run flats. I have never tried to tell anyone that what I do is for everyone. Pertaining to road noise, the prt't take care of that. The handling, I don't track my car, so that is not important to me, because of how I use my car. The ride, after all it is a corvette. If I want a cushie ride I'll buy a caddie. What others do with there car is there right, and I have the same right. Like I said before when I am quoted on here it's like people think they now better then myself what I do with MY car!!!

Put some low price non runflats on and a Vette will ride like a Caddie, but handle like a Vette is suppose to. That's all we're saying.

Because someone post a view that is different than yours doesn't mean they are telling you what to do. If you have never run anything except run flats how the hell would you know what the non-run flats are like?
I have run both and there is a BIG difference on my car.

I understand you've never ran non RF's before. My reply with you started with this: "If anyone wants run flats then get them. No biggy to me. It's your car so do it."

Then I simply explained what happened when I gave non-runflats a try. That's the best thing about this forum. It's a bunch of nice Corvette owners who share information. You are free to do what you want with your car but I highly recommend reading what others have tried. Some succeed and some fail. The information you find on this board is free and you are free to do with it as you please.

Now, lets go drive regardless of the kind of tire we have.

Wait...don't go... we still, after 17 years haven't convinced you to at least try NON run flat tires. Well, dang! If, you ever do try them, please report back if you notice any difference in road noise and handling.
