I sold my c6 Z and then bought a C5 Z. Not near the snap oversteer in the C5 IMO. And having run a couple at the track, that was on the short side, the Z will win. Given a longer track, I'd win bigger.
Definitely a driver's race, but ZL-1s are super nice rides. Before I bought my first Vette about 5 years ago, I would probably be in a Camaro (used to be Trans AM guy).
I prefer my Z06 over a Camaro, but have definitely been thinking about the 2016 Camaro SS as a daily car. With that ATS-V frame and the new LT1 they should be bad to the bone.
BTW, congrats on your ZL-1. Definitely one fine super muscle car!

All of this is incredibly silly. Same driver, my '03 Z would stomp a ZL1 at any track...100% unverified but still 100% true...that's all that matters. Argument over.
Also your talking about a decade in tire advancement. The 2006 z06 ring rime was much different than the 2012-13 z06 with the pilot super sports. I forget the exact number but it was almost 10-15 seconds better with better tires. C5z and zl1 on same rubber compound would be fun to watch but my money is on the z06.
Post cold start for Z06 vs. hot lap for ZL1 makes some difference.
I'd think on a tighter course the Z06 would have it.
Newer tire technology could make some difference, but if comparing stock to stock... not applicable.
I'll still say these cars are extremely close competitors, still says a lot for a 12 year old car on 12 year old technology tires.
I already addressed this; that's comparing apples and oranges:

You can't compare any times pre-GT-R to those post-GT-R... after Nissan did a hot lap start for their hero time, every other manufacturer followed suit
