Default LED Reverse Bulbs Question...

Hello all. I recently replaced my OEM brake lights with a beautiful set of LED Halos from Corvette Envy. Absolutely love the way they look, but it leaves me wanting to replace the reverse halogens as well. My question is: For a temporary fix, can I replace the bulbs with something purchased locally? (Pep Boys, Autozone, etc.) I'm sure there are plenty of vendors selling replacement LEDs on CF, and probably some replacement housings for the lights as well. Until I get to ordering something online, what are my options? Anyone gone the cheap and easy route and have pictures/part #'s? Thanks very much.

19.95/pr shipped on Amazon

Google Genssi Cree 1157 80W. These are the ones that look like a projector housing with LED's every 90* around the perimeter. The 4 LED chips emitting through the lens provide good light, the ones around the perimeter illuminate your reflector housing. I have similar on my 2011 Silverado and look great and light up much better than halogens. Inexpensive as well.

I have some 80w cree leds in mine with an adjure housing and they are really bright... I would just order something online and wait a few days, it would most likely be cheaper than any parts store and better quality

That's also the setup I have, and they are indeed bright. It's almost like having headlights for backups.

Do those Genssi bulbs fit right into the stock bulb sockets and fit into the backup light housing/lens without any modifications, ie, they are the same size as the regular bulbs? That looks to be a great solution for more light out the rear without spending gnormous amounts of money.

Diode Dynamics out of St. Louis. They make their own. Good stuff.

I do not have that exact brand but mine are very similar... they should fit right in the bulb socket like any normal bulb will and you should have a couple of inches inside the housing to fit a bulb... the housing is easy to take off so you could measure and ask for dimensions of the bulb just to make sure... here is a pic of mine in the adjure housing

Do you need anything special to put LEDs in the reverse lights--no hyperflash type anything?

No hyperflash -- hyperflash is only an LED turn signal issue.

Is there a significant improvement in brightness, not just aesthetics, when these
Genssi 2x 80W CREE White 1156 Genssi 2x 80W CREE White 1156
are used in the stock housing, not the Adjure or other aftermarket replacement?

Will they fit inside the stock housing? They look quite long...

the adjure is the same as the stock housing, it just has clear lenses and the ones I have fit fine in my adjure housing so I don't see why they wouldn't work in the stock housing... like I stated, it's easy to take off and get measurements if you are in doubt... as far as the light increase it may not be as great with the stock housing but if you already have led tails they will really clean up the look on the back of the car... halogen mixed with led/hid looks bad to me

The combination of brightness and color make these or ones similar a great upgrade especially when you consider how easy to change, how little to spend, no downside and how big the improvement. A genuine "NO BRAINER".

Honestly, I would not buy the bulb from local sources. they are typically rather dim and expensive for what they provide.

The radioflyer solutions combines the adjure diamond-reflector/clear lens housing with Cree 16-chip LED bulbs:

If you get the Cree bulbs, you won't need to waste the money on an adjure housing. They are plenty bright by themselves.

I wouldn't consider the adjure housing a waste of money, it looks really clean when matched with led tails... if you have stock tails then yeah it might look a little odd and probably better to leave the stock reverse light housing in my opinion

The Adjure on its own makes a significant difference. I used low cost 28watt conventional bulbs in mine, and they are certainly bright enough for most purposes.
