1156 and 2056 have one filament while 1157 and 2057 have two filaments. I believe the difference between the 11.. and 20.. is the wattage of one of the filaments.

So that was your problem trying to make it work! The contact(s) at the bottom of the socket are placed differently. Look at the picture above.

What's really interesting is that you were able to lock them in the sockets. The 1157/2057 locking tabs are offset unlike the 1156/2056 to prevent using the wrong bulb... I guess you really applied the "Jedi's Force"

If the OEM bulbs are 2057 these are the ones to get:
Genssi 2x 80W CREE White 1157

Yup. The dual contact style is a must, otherwise you will only get intermittent contact at best.

I may go LED, but I am currently running 1157HP's from Candlepower - much brighter than standard. Another improvement is to make the rear plate assembly more vertical, putting more light on the road. I used 1" spacers and long screws at the top, regular screws at the bottom.

You are correct sir. The 1157 is the one to go with. Oh well. I'll find something to do with the 56's at some point.

If you fancy a soldering adventure, you can purchase an empty 1157 base from autolumination.com and just swap bases on your bulb.

Contacted Amazon regarding a return/exchange, and they were a pleasure to deal with. My new 1157 bulbs will be in on Friday, and they're letting me keep the 1156's to do with what I will. Great customer service! I will definitely order from Amazon in the future.

I'm not nearly skilled enough to embark on a soldering field trip, let alone adventure. Great idea though, and I appreciate your honesty. Most vendors would have plugged their own product and said, "I told you so." I'll contact you very soon regarding that adjure housing.

Do you still sell the 20W LEDs? I am pretty happy with what I have! Any brighter and people would start throwing things at me when I back up!

We no longer sell the 20w versions. The output is nearly identical, both versions have 16 high power LED chips. The version we currently sell just makes better use of the reflector and is much easier to install.

So are those new 1157 LEDs significantly brighter than what you had before with the stock lights? You like them?

Extremely bright compared to the stock halogens. They'll be even brighter once I add the adjure housing as seen above. The white light that the LEDs cast looks much cleaner and more modern than the yellow halogen light. Not to mention it looks like you have high beams coming out the back of the car!

The aftermarket rear HALO LED's were ahead of their time. The oval shape C5 rear lights lend themselves well to this look...the C6 round lights do not.
Looks great TorchRedLS6 !

You're welcome.

The LED 1157s finish off the rear nicely with a clean crisp light compared to **** yellow emitted by factory halogens.

I ordered the 1157 Crees from Amazon a few days ago and they arrived yesterday and promptly put them in. They are BRIGHT, probably as bright as my stock headlights. What an improvement, now I can actually see when I back up and don't have to also put my brakes on for extra light. Thanks a lot for this one. I was going to adjust the angle of the license plate and lights as in another post I can't find now, but this is bright enough that I really don't have to do that.
