I don't do it to Vettes so acceleration is minimal. Also if the two ladies that actually went because of my honk cease to text again there's a good chance the damage you say I caused (awesome thinking) is far less than what they could cause if left alone.
Wrong, cruise control is better used than not, that is how I spot them right away their speed is up and down and lane to lane, cruise control is one less thing you have to think about and pay attention to the road !!!!!!!!!!
It depends on the situation. In my case if I use cruise I get disconnected and loose focus but when I am using my feet I am fully connected and aware

You are the one who said you try to get them to go, not me, I disagree with the whole idea, including your wrong assumption it could not cause serious dammage or injury. Its a bad idea, its not up to you to teach somebody a lesson by involving innocent people. Thats just bad judgment Imo.
You mean you've never seen any videos of people walking into things while texting? YouTube has lots of video of such. The lady who was texting and walked into a mall fountain a few years ago is a classic. And as far as walking and talking goes, lots of people get so consumed in their phone conversation that they pretty much ignore everything else going on around them. I've personally seen people almost get run over crossing a street because they were talking on the phone and not paying attention to the traffic on the street. So, yes, lots of people CANNOT walk and talk on a phone at the same time.
If we are talking about physically speaking into a phone I have no issue with it- be it in a car or walking. Prior to texting though I swear I've never seen someone read a book or try to write one on foot or while driving.
No, it's not legal in TX. It can be cited as a distracted driving violation by any cop who sees someone doing it. Furthermore, some cities, such as Austin, do in fact have in their municipal code language making the use of ANY handheld device while driving a moving traffic violation. You may think it's legal in TX because there's no specific statewide statute against it, but that doesn't mean it's legal. I truly wish there was a statewide statute specifically outlawing said activity, as that would get more of the public's attention to the problem, but it is definitely NOT legal to do in TX, despite what some people think.
I've never heard of anyone being cited in Houston. Austin, SA and others, yes but not Houston. Sorry I wasn't more clear about only talking about this city. It sounds like it could be up to the cops discretion from your comments if it caused an accident or other situation. It definitely causes traffic jams every single day and I agree that it shouldn't be legal.

So you have never seen the same things with no phone!
Cant protect people from themselves all the time.
What about walking and chewing gum

I've seen people do all kinds of things while driving. Eating (which means you can't be driving with both hands when you should be), putting on makeup, READ THE MORNING PAPER, to just name a few.

Yeah, so? Your link to TxDOT just proved what I said previously.
As far as being cited in Houston, not for texting and driving per se, because Houston hasn't passed such an ordinance. But that wouldn't prevent a driver from being ticketed for distracted driving, which covers a whole gambit of behavior behind the wheel. Houston really needs to enact the ordinance IMO because there are too many drivers on our streets who drive distracted, regardless of how they are distracted. Even better, I'd rather see a statewide TWD law, but Perry shot that down a couple of years ago when he was governor. Maybe Abbott will be a little smarter (wouldn't take much).

Stretching there a bit. You can eat without taking your eyes off the road (I do it almost daily, never in the Vette) 2 hands on the wheel isn't any law I know of anywhere. Curious as to how you adjust your heat controls or radio while driving if two hands on the wheel is mandatory. And women doing the makeup thing is almost a morning ritual around here, mostly when stopped at red lights though.
And no, I don't honk at them to create an accident, they're putting in an effort to look good for us/you/me/everyone.

Sure, but not nearly to the same degree as with a phone!
No, you can't, but you can do things that protect the innocent from those who do stupid things like texting while driving. Or maybe you don't think so, huh?
What about walking and chewing gum? How about walking and picking your nose? Can you do that? No, wait, I don't really wanna know.

If there is no law against cellphone use, how are you going to be cited for it?
Although Texas has no statewide law banning the use of cell phones while driving for all drivers, many local areas prohibit or limit the use of cell phones while driving. Specific limitations are listed below.
If you're in a school zone or one of the cities with an ordinance, then yes, you deserve it.
By the way, I agree with you. Cellphones are the main problem with Houston drivers. I've seen many other things too, including people reading books and even the paper in the morning.

My comments were for the guy who wants phones locked while moving, including walking. not texting while driving, that should be illegal everywhere IMO.
I usually sit while picking my nose, including at stop lights

Not a stretch at all, Murray. Eating while driving is in fact distracted driving. Don't really care if you believe me or not, but it's a fact. Besides, you yourself won't do it in your Vette. Why is that? Need both hands to drive, huh? And I never said "2 hands on the wheel" is a law anywhere. It's just good driving practice, as ANY good driver will tell you. As to adjusting the AC/heater or radio, that's a very momentary action, not a sustained action diverting use of one or both hands. You should know that, Murray. I shouldn't have to tell you that.
This is the reason I sold my Harley and bought the Vette. 40 years of motorcycle riding and nothing to prepare you for the idiots doing this.
The texting thing was one of the main reasons I stopped riding my bike on the street about 8 years ago. Only did track days from then on. Have since retired from that as well. Too many broken bones and surgeries. Loving the bikes replacement. my 01' C5!!!
