I ride a motorcycle and it SCARES THE HELL out of me that some one has their head buried in a cell phone text session when I'm stopped in front of them at a red light!
I ALWAYS leave enough room in front to maneuver and I ALWAYS check the mirror when I'm stopped. If I cant see the other persons EYES, I prep to get out of the way!
donald4972 100% Brother! Im with you! They should pay a SUPREME PRICE for a LONG TIME!
6 responses with well over 100 views on this thread is a pretty good indication that a fair number of "Corvette enthusiasts" condone texting while driving and are guilty of it. Personally, I have no sympathy or tolerance for someone that allows their cell phone to rule their life, and end up getting killed because a text, selfie, or social media status update can't wait. How selfish so many are to be that frivolous with other people's lives, that they might as well roll down the window, and say "Hey, f**k your life, I'm in my own self-absorbed world, deal with it at your own peril".
To me its worse than dwi. At least you can sort of see the road.
I agree with you guys, they need to make the penalties for texting while driving worse so people will stop doing it. Then again, I guess that won't stop it completely, but it would help cut it down some. Too many idiots in the world.
I just looked up Iowa's law on texting, weak.....REALLY WEAK.
A person ticketed under the new law will face a fine of $30 (or up to $1,000 for causing a serious accident while texting). Iowa’s novice driver cell phone laws are considered “primary” laws. A primary law means that an officer can pull you over for the offense without having to witness some other violation. That is, the officer sees a young driver on a cell phone and issues a citation. Iowa’s texting law is a secondary law. A secondary law refers to the fact that an officer can only pull you over and issue a ticket if the officer has witnessed some other violation – for example, you ran a stop light while texting.
I will start off by saying that I have been guilty of texting and driving in the past but I was fortunate enough to almost run off into a ditch and not cause a wreck or hurt anyone or anything. Now I will wait til I am stopped or if the wife is with me I may ask her to check if it is important. I do not support cell phone use while driving and to be honest I avoid talking on the phone while driving even if I can use Bluetooth.
To take it yet one step further I dont even like using cruise control that much because you can become overly relaxed and loose focus of what is really going on around you.

How does the number of responses to views in anyway equal condoning texting and driving? So anyone who looks at a thread must comment or it means something? and you can tell what that something is?
No, it's not legal in TX. It can be cited as a distracted driving violation by any cop who sees someone doing it. Furthermore, some cities, such as Austin, do in fact have in their municipal code language making the use of ANY handheld device while driving a moving traffic violation. You may think it's legal in TX because there's no specific statewide statute against it, but that doesn't mean it's legal. I truly wish there was a statewide statute specifically outlawing said activity, as that would get more of the public's attention to the problem, but it is definitely NOT legal to do in TX, despite what some people think.

Wrong, cruise control is better used than not, that is how I spot them right away their speed is up and down and lane to lane, cruise control is one less thing you have to think about and pay attention to the road !!!!!!!!!!
Two long years ago,I contacted Intel, requesting that they design a chip to install in all mobile devices.
The chip would automatically lock the devise if it sensed motion.
That would mean no mobile devise would operate in a moving vehicle, and also would be locked when the user is walking.
Was told they would look into it, and after numerous calls to them, I assume they were not interested.
That chip would have put an immediate stop to all mobile device use in vehicles, and while walking .
I have hands free calling, still don't use the phone much in the car. For text it tells me I have a text, disregard or answer. all I have to do is say what I want for text, still don't do it. If I know someone is driving I don't text them !!!

You can't walk and talk sorry I know it's a serious topic but come on you can't be serious. Did you ever think about all the passengers, I'm sure they never considered it.
Stopped in here a couple of times but don't condone it.
I've actually quickly honked at people while still stopped at a red light hoping they run into the person in front of them thinking the lights green
(These people are obviously entrenched in their phone and 3 ft away from the other persons bumper so no injury would occur)
It appears here at least that most offenders are women 18-30 ish range
That's nice of you to try that, three feet is plenty of room to cause injury and lots of damage depending on how hard the gas is pressed and how heavy the vehicle, I would not do that if it were me.

Your "logic" sucks, you're saying that everyone who reads a post but doesn't reply therefore condones whatever the post was attempting to draw attention to.

I don't do it to Vettes so acceleration is minimal.
Also if the two ladies that actually went because of my honk cease to text again there's a good chance the damage you say I caused (awesome thinking) is far less than what they could cause if left alone.

You mean you've never seen any videos of people walking into things while texting? YouTube has lots of video of such. The lady who was texting and walked into a mall fountain a few years ago is a classic. And as far as walking and talking goes, lots of people get so consumed in their phone conversation that they pretty much ignore everything else going on around them. I've personally seen people almost get run over crossing a street because they were talking on the phone and not paying attention to the traffic on the street. So, yes, lots of people CANNOT walk and talk on a phone at the same time.
