Default Tires Again

I have Z16 option rims on my 02 Vert and am now shopping for tires. I originally was going with the Michelin PSS but they no longer have the fronts anywhere. Then I was going with the Continental Extreme Contact Sport, but the rears are nationally backordered and my dealer spoke with Continental who told him they won't be available until September. The Toyo Proxes T1 seems to have mixed reviews so I am looking for other suggestions other than the Nitto's. I might be able to wait for the Continentals since my tires are being replaced based on age and not wear but I would prefer not driving them this summer.

What is the size you are looking for???? 265/40R17?

Have you looked into BFG G-force sport comp-2?

But, they also might not be available in the size you would like.

I have only used those on my last few AWD cars, and have worked well..... I have had PSS on last 98 coupe , I have PS2 on my 03 Z now...

I will be upgrading front wheel size to 18 inch next year so I can run square PSS setup , have you thought about upgrading wheel size?

I am going 255/40-17 front and 295/35-18 rear. Going to step down one size in the front from OEM.

How about the Bridgestone RE760 or the Falken Azenis RT615? Both those tires should be available now if that's a concern.

Using the OEM size further limits the availability and choices whereas the smaller front opens up several other potential tires. I am now looking at the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport. They seem to have very favorable reviews on several boards. Have the tire dealer checking into availability and price.

I had the same issue. Tires are 8 years old so I wanted to replace them. After looking for over a month, I found 1 supplier on the internet that had the Proxes T1 Sports in stock in the oem sizes. They were $740 delivered & it'll cost me another $60 to have them mounted & balanced. My old tires are Toyo Proxes T1R and they have been quality pieces. I have driven them in all kinds of weather and temperatures even though they are summer performance tires. They still look good and have good traction, but they are just too long in the tooth. Based on that experience with the Toyo tires, I considered them the only real option right now. I would love to have been able to find some ultra high performance all weather tires, but I just didn't see anything with width and height I could live with.

I thought the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 came in the correct sizes and was an all season tire. My tire dealer quoted me those tires, but I really wanted a summer tire.

I think if you need a tire good in the rain too then the Toyo Sport is probably the choice for stock sizes.

What about the new Continental Extreme Sport - is it available in the 255 front?

Supposed to be a great wet and dry tire.

The rears are on National back order. Spoke to Continental, they won't be available until September. If you look closely at the web sites like Tire Rack, it states out of stock for the rears.

Nitto NT-05 work well for good weather condish. 275 front is the only deviation from stock.

If no one is going to say it, I will. Either move on to an available tire that has good ratings, or wait for the one you want. As long as you don't by a crapo kinezo or bangladeshi tire, and you dont drive the car like a maniac , youll be fine with whats available.

Nitto NT05 275/40R17 front 296/35R18 rear

Next time I am going w/ NT01 275/40r17 front & 305/35R18 rear

I'm averaging 8-12,000 miles out of the rear NT05 & 15-18,000 miles on the fronts....the NT01 would likely burn up 40% quicker but they're a very aggressive tire barely street legal.

The NT05 while very tacky, good enough for an autocross or track day, good treadwear as noted above (w/ street driving & I push it good @ times putting 430whp down in my Z), they're not loud, AND they are OK in the rain - the NT01's I'm guessing are no Bueno for rainy days but I try my hardest to avoid the wet stuff.
