Apparently I was "following too closely" As a local LEO pulled out in front of me and promptly did 5 under the speed limit... His actual words? " I couldn't see the front of your car in my mirror" I said "Sir? my car is 3 inches off the ground. You wouldn't see my car out the back of your SUV anyway. His reply? " I'd hate for me as an emergency vehicle to slam on my brakes and have this nice car rear end me" As I was thinking to myself how hypocritical that is? Since all police officers tend to follow ME to closely? Not to mention how much better my brakes are than his? Especially at 30mph? I simply said yes sir... he came back with just a warning.....
Ahhhh...the old do as I say not as I do syndrome. Cops can follow too close, speed, whatever cause they are cops. That does get really annoying when you see that but at least he just gave you a warning.

I have learned just to agree with them, no matter how stupid saying coming from his mouth, he right now has the power to make your day with smile, take hard earned money from your pocket.
It's always nice to give them respect they want, YES SIR!
Not a good idea to tailgate a cop, no matter how slow he is going.
I agree... But I also find it VERY hypocritical that they follow ME too closely as well.... I feel like Ice Man is on my tail... "get bored, frustrated... do something stupid and he's got you.." Just an example that, that's the best excuse for him to pull over a red Corvette?
I got pulled over for no front license plate--had the front filler in as I think it looks better.
He only gave me a warning but low and behold he was in the same spot the next morning. Good think I took the filler off and put my plate on! Not worth the hassle.

Maybe they follow you closely as a part of their job. Read license plate, see if you're wearing a seat belt, look at the dates on the tags, ect.. anytime I do something wrong and get off with a warning is a win in my book.
Relates some to something I experienced where I'm driving the 'Vette up Hwy 30, a two lane highway, at night.
I'm cruising about 60 in a 55 and note some headlights gaining rapidly on me from behind. I wonder if it's some kid wanting to challenge or a cop.
So I maintain my speed while the headlights then drift back away from me.....then back on my ***....then drift back...and again back up on top of me.
So there's a rough patch of road on a curve that I know about and the smoothest way through means crossing the fog line a little.
The very half second I crossed the line, he shows me it's a cop and lights me up. So I pull over and he wonders why I wandered over the line. I ask, "have you seen the road there?" So he asks if I'm familiar with the road and I reply "yes". Well, then he gets called away but before he leaves he says he's just going to give me a warning for VARYING MY SPEED!!
Damn glad he walked away 'cause I sure felt like arguing THAT one!

Do as I say not as I do.... I'm all for respecting the law. But there was absolutely zero reason to pull me over. Other than he didn't like me behind him... (He had to actually pull over and let me by him) I can't tell you how many times I've seen LEO's break the law (that they get paid to enforce... and apply to them as well) without any blue lights on.
I know I got a break... And I was pleasant with him the whole time. I just think the whole thing was a huge waste of my time, And his.

For him, the feeling that he gets to exercise power over you is not a waste of his time.
right or wrong its your best bet, get mouthy with them youre opening a can of worms & be on the losing end every time.
These days a little compliance goes a long ways...usually.
