i just bought all the stuff to do the valve spring job this winter. Anything I should be doing while I’m in there. Not really looking to make it a huge job just if there is something easy to do while it’s apart.
I think that just gets into to big is job for me to handle. I’m what I call a YouTube mechanic. I can watch and usually feel comfortable doing things. But cam job is just to much for me

Definitely change out the valve seals. Very easy and good insurance. While you are in there...
I had the spark plug wires and spark plugs changed also in addition to valve springs, valve seals and valve covers. The reason is that many have had some plug wires break due to age.
Along with the valve springs I replaced all the cooling system hoses, coolant, and the belt since everything is essentially 15 years old. At that time I discovered the motor mounts needed to be replaced so those were done. Now, the car almost new again.

Agreed, but those are not related to the valve spring replacement (ie. "while you are in there" tasks).

I would upgrade the trunnions since the rockers have to come off anyway, straub makes a nice bushing kit... I would stay away from comp or any of the needle bearing kits, they are widely known to prematurely wear the trunnions
This might be a dumb question but how will you know if you need your springs replaced? I bought my car with 64,000km (39,000m) and it runs great, etc so I have no idea if it was already done. I didn't get any information with the car or records, but I did obviously get a PPI from the local Corvette shop here in calgary.
thanks.

If the springs are original (yellow) replace them. There is no actual mileage they should be replaced at. The problem is the material used to make the springs. There was some contamination that made it into the spring wires during manufacturing and that causes them to break without warning. This can happen any any mileage and even while just idling. If you don't want to pull up a valve cover you can remove the oil fill tube on the passenger side, shine some light in there and see what color the springs are. If they're yellow replace them. If they're blue your good. The problem only applies to 02-03 LS6 Z06. I'm pretty sure the 01 had different springs because of the smaller cam and the 04 got the new upgraded blue springs.

Agree. If you were to upgrade the trunnions definitely go with the Straub kit and stay away from the Comp Cams or similar kits.
ok just watched a video on trunions since I had no idea what they were. Seems straight forward but I dont have a press, so I am probably going to have to skip it.

Yes, I know that but, since the car is essentially 15 years old and most likely the cooling system hoses/coolant are of the same age and dince he has his head under thr hood, I think this is a perfect opportunity to change the 15 year old hoses.
Just replaced my valve springs today on my 03 z06 as well as the seals, spark plugs and wires. The car has 31000 miles.
The old springs were not yellow in color sort of gray in color.
I've only had the car for a month and I wanted to start off fresh and have peace of mind.
Next up is the LMC5 then the Elite Eng oil catch can.

Original springs in mine were bare metal with an orange stripe.
