Seeking opinions about switching my stock C5 stereo for a double din. I know several CF members have gone this route for various reasons and I haven't heard of many regrets after doing so. I am satisfied with the stock CD player, 12 disc changer, and Bose speakers...but I often think about doing the upgrade to update the car.
Said it before... I rarely have my stereo on. If I were to do a double DIN I'd only do so for aesthetics, thus only if someone could also offer a replacement heater control (I think going DD only brings out how unattractive the lower piece is).
Went with a DD setup from Dennis at Double D Mods... but that was several years ago. Dennis has since stopped doing Corvette work/products, but there's others out there.
Basically, I wanted an up-to-date system & look... and that's what I got. Love it!
Answered "Have plans to go to a double din soon" since I have one on order from VetteNuts.
Like grantv we don't listen to our radio much so that's not the driving factor. I do want, as redzg stated, to be able to have a back up (and front view) camera as well as nav and the phone connection. Seems like the cleanest way to accomplish that.
I did mine last year absolutely love having the ability to have a back up camera ( as we all know visibility is a bit lacking while backing up a C5 lol ) also I can steam music and use hands free calling. Plus I think it helps refresh the look of the interior of the car. This pic was fro when mine first was installed I've since added a custom splash screen on the radio to clean up the look
Like Frank, I did mine from DD Mods. I have the Kenwood 9903, which has Apple CarPlay. It has modernized the interior to the point that the GPS system alone is superior to my other 2 cars. The ability to interface with a large number of Apple apps hands free is unbeatable.
As for the sound, it’s great through the standard Bose speakers, and AM reception is better.
I too have a DD Mods Bezel wrapped in leather. I have the Kenwood 9903s with Morel components up front, JLs in the rear and a 10in JL sub. All powered by a Kenwood amp. Sounds much better than stock. Like others have said, has apple car play and android auto.
This is your last chance to save $100 on our Double Din Bezel! This price is for pre ordering and we will be shipping out late February. The container left port today and has a long ride across the ocean. This price will never be seen again!!!!

I went with one of those Android single din with screen attached units. Doesn't look as nice, but is very functional. I need to save up to get my bumper and fender replaced before I can think about getting a double din dash, lol.
