It really has nothing to do with Corvettes. If you park any car out in the boonies to avoid door dings you expect some common courtesy. You don't expect some knucklehead to park next to you just because he can..

Wife and I go to a casino on occasion so she can play. I usually park the Vette in the last place in the lot (a good block long walk) protected by parking island on two sides (drivers side and back). It usually is OK but I came out one time and there was another car parked right next to it. It was a C6, though, so it was OK. Usually, if someone parks next to me a long way from whereever, I really don't like it but hope they are as careful around my vehicle as I am around theirs.

I can admit doing this on purpose BECAUSE I am a Corvette owner. My rationale is that I KNOW that I would be careful around the other Corvette and that if I park in the next spot over (where there is ZERO change of dinging the car), then nobody else will get the chance of parking close to potentially cause damage. Think of it as a protective screen.

Common courtesy does not extend to not knowing you are breaking some self absorbed driver's rule about parking next to anyone who is parked an indeterminate distance from whatever and in doing so you have become a discourteous miscreant.
Contrary to some beliefs not every motor vehicle operator on the planet holds a Corvette in high esteem let alone gives a royal crap about one or it's elite automotive status. If you think they should, you ain't thinkin.

I relooked at the pic.....there were several cars spread out in that lot and many spots further out where only one side would be exposed to possible damage. I think they had no idea what you were doing. Plus, think about it.....if they did do it on purpose? chances are they would be careful NOT to touch your car as they got out.

I’ve been reading some of the posts here and can somewhat understand the different viewpoints. However I completely understand the desire to keep one’s property safe. I’ve been a bodyman for over 4 decades and I know how exasperating it can be trying to keep your pride and joy from being beaten to death by careless drivers. I guess they don’t understand that that chip in the paint that there door just left in the car next to them can be VERY COSTLY FIX. My shop routinely charges $300 to $400 a panel to repair door dings. Normally due to blending needs 2 panels are required for a proper match. Add in a additional $100 to fix the gouge in the thermal-set plastic that a corvette body is now made of, Throw in some sales tax and now we have a $1,000 bill. I’ve always park in the back, I try and put a curb on one side and angle it slightly so the middle is less vulnerable. I drive a 03 corvette with original paint and no chips, my wife’s 15 Accord is also without door dings. We both park the same way, We try to avoid busy times when all parking is at a premium so we don’t cause a incident. But we refuse to have our property damaged by careless, thoughtless, or malicious individuals. We both worked very hard to have cars we are proud of and simply cannot afford to repair it because someone else can’t or won’t open there car door properly. I think anyone with half a brain can see you’ve parked in the back 40 so your car doesn’t get banged up. And to park right next to it is just being a a- hole. Now some of you can call me the same and that’s your privilege but I wonder how’ll you’ll feel when you find out how much that little “accident” that wasn’t your fault will cost you. Park where you want it’s free world, but I’ll be in the back.

FWIW this will be my airport car so it will get exposed to dings at some point. Doesn't mean I won't try to protect it when I can. Oh well, next time I'll try a different row a bit further away.

I always pull through since the nose is long and low and I'm afraid someone is going to bump it.
This happens to me all the time too. I parked in the middle of nowhere at the grocery store on the way home from picking up my daughter from work. I ran into the store and came back out to see a Suburban right next to mine. Not too close but right there.
My daughter was waiting in the car and she was a little annoyed, not because of the safety of my car, but because they blocked her free wifi from the store! Haha!
This happens to me all the time too. I parked in the middle of nowhere at the grocery store on the way home from picking up my daughter from work. I ran into the store and came back out to see a Suburban right next to mine. Not too close but right there.
