Depends on your budget and what you mean by modernize.
Modernizing the look would be lighting, both interior and exterior, to HID and LED.
1. Radio Flyer BiXenon headlights
2. RF LED fogs
3. RF exterior/interior LED kit
(Yea, I like Georges products )
For drivability and performance
c6 shifter, swaybars, shocks, etc
I suppose you could call the audio system either a creature comfort or convenience if you get one that supports Nav, XM, and or phone inputs.

This is a good list, but don't get me going on "modernizing" the C5. I luv my C5 vert since the day I bought it new in July 2004, but auto technology, especially in lighting and infotainment, have come a long way in 15 years.

Hey guys,
This has probably been asked before, but I just bought my first C5, and I absolutely love it. I'm over my fear of driving when I'm behind the Wheel. However, I'm looking to personalize my baby, starting with some modernization..i.e: upgrading sound system, adding backup camera, ect.
I'm asking because I'm looking at parts and would like your guys input of your own projects and parts used. I'm a little nervous because if I go out and buy a part, it might be non compatible, hoping to hear from ya.
Cheers.

Aesthetics are more like feel good mods. : Here is a hint, you dont want to do too many aesthetic mods at one time, if you want to keep the car for a long time. Meaning if you add a mod or two every couple of years, months etc. You can keep the car aesthetically fun for many years. The biggest every day noticeable feel good aesthetic mod is an upgraded head unit. One with Turn by turn audible Navigation, double din, Apple Car Play, Android auto, receiving texts and email, hands free phone and back up camera.
Wheels can make a big impact on the aesthetic profile and personality of your car.
Upgraded seats are a very popular and very positive feel good mod.
For many an Up graded hood will give the car a unique look.
The best advice is to try to develop a plan for how your car will look, both inside and out. do a lot of research and get opinions. If you see something you like on another members car. Contact him because he/she will have a better feeling for the installed mod.
Good Luck
I know a few things because I have seen a few things

They could take 350 watts rms easy.
One finally died after 18 years in various cars so I replaced them with
$300.00 Hertz HCX premium 6x9s.
You can use any 6x9 lots in the 150.00 range.
You have to gut the speaker covers and put them behind on the back side to space
out the speakers so they clear the window tracks.
The door panel fits fine.

This was one of my favorite mods to my C5, after the carbon fiber inlays. HIGHLY recommend this, especially with ACA headlights, plus it's cheap if you already have the lights. Reminds me, I need to list them in the for sale section since I removed them before I sold the car.
