Black wheels in my opinion are a costly lost opportunity. In other than perfect lighting , they disappear into the black tire and fender spacing and black wheel wells. Many Photos of black wheels that are professionally lit and used in marketing advertisements look good but get them on a dusty street and they disappear .into the shadows quickly.
Here are some examples of lost opportunities.. all these shots were taking in bright sunshine, but less than perfect lighting. and typically what you would see on the street and not under professional lighting
The argument ( discussion )seems to be , either their are too many black wheels on the road, or that black wheels are not as significant as other finishes. and to me represent a lost opportunity.. and the reason why we do NOT see many black wheels on the road. few people are willing to spend a few grand on wheels that do not jump out

Some perfect examples of what you would see o9n the street.

So, to give you the matter of doubt, I counted 50 cars to and from my destination again today. I counted 4 of a hundred. While that is an increase of my other fact finding of 3%, 4% is still a far cry from your 50% claim. My household has 7 vehicles, none with black rims. In all the cars I've every owned, about 16, only 1 had black rims. Even that at a HIGH 6%, is still a long ways away from your 50%. I will give you this, black wheels are more popular on sport cars than other types of vehicles in my observation. Still, I'd give it a max of 10% on sport cars.
Okay, I retract my statement and I'll replace it with this; there are way too many vehicles on the road today with black wheels. There, is that better?

All very nice (except the Porsche, not my thing), thanks for posting.
And like many others, I couldn't give a crap about what others think, or how good a picture looks to others (of for that matter how good my car looks in pictures).
Every one of those cars only reinforces my liking black wheels. We each have our own taste, it's all good.

I went with black Z06 replicas with the machined lip and really dig the look.

thanks guys i read all the replies and appreciate the inputs. I saw some inspiration a while back that had me thinking about black wheels but they tend to disappear into the tire itself and look weird, especially when tire is dusty like ET mentioned.

Here is some photo I liked a while back:

They look pretty damn cool to me in the pic, but you can tell the owner shines them up and the tires every day. I'll stick to chrome or polished.

The tire situation definitely matters a ton when it comes to black / dark wheels. My wife has a Grand Cherokee 75th Anniversary edition with the bronze / gunmetal wheels and I always forget how great they look when I've got everything freshly clean, and I remember how blah they look when I've let too much time go by.

I too would suggest chrome rims over black...I think chrome makes a red C5 pop more. If you want to stay more "stock-looking" then I suggest Z06 rims. I think BB Bullets are awesome too - I had them and they really roar when you want them too:

Also - may I suggest some other upgrades that are fairly inexpensive but add a nice touch of class and also seem to catch a judges eye if you do car shows (all can be found on Ebay or Amazon):
