I've never had anyone say anything to me about it. In fact, I've only gotten two compliments on the car, one from a kid who looked to be about 7, and the other from another C5 owner.
I often see people saying **** online about Corvette drivers. It doesn't really bother me.
It is what it is...if I cared what other people thought, I would have missed out on a lot of great life experiences.
Bought my first Corvette at age 20, had seven more over a 45 year period. Never had a mid life crisis comment although it may have had some influence ending an early marriage.
True story - beach house - housemate pulls up in a vette - girl walks up to him before he gets out:
Girl - Your car?
Guy - (proudly) - Yep - my car!
Girl - I'm truly sorry to hear of the death of your d*ck
Not a Vette comeback but some years ago, my neighbor's younger sister (who thought she was God's gift to men) decided it would get my attention to take a photo of herself on my vintage BMW motorcycle and sent me the photo. She in a bikini of course.
Moments later, I made sure she watched me walk up to my bike with a big spray bottle (I wrote BLEACH on it) filled with water. As I started spraying it down, I'm talking very loud to myself,
"can't be too careful. you know women these days".
I've had people say the same to me and like you I've owned corvettes since I was young. Some people say negative things to you to make themselves feel better.
I’m early 50s and have heard the same thing. What I wonder is do the guys my age or older who drive around in GTIs, WRXs, etc hear the same comments?? They are basically driving a kid’s car - who’s having the midlife crisis?? I have a car mostly owned by old men, no crisis here lol.
I mostly get jabs from a couple friends who don't understand the love of cars. They buy boring practical appliance cars, and make sure to scoff every time my car is mentioned. Guess who they call when they're having car trouble though.
Occasionally I'll get the 'overcompensating' jokes as well, which is some BS. I lift weights to overcompensate, the car has nothing to do with it.
Hi, excuse my english.
I bought mine when I was 48...My daughters are getting older and my wife and I have more free time and the desire to make up for the time invested....so, a Vette, why not? Call it "crisis" if you want, our friends (mostly his wives) do ....but the guys love the car.
Somebody said: "The only difference between a kid and a man is the price of his toys"...well, I'm still a kid.
Maybe, when I grow up and become a mature adult person I will buy "practical and adult" cars and sell my motorcycles too.
In the meantime, we will enjoy the "Crisis Vette" as much as we can.....
