If you think that's wild, think about one of the locals here in Florida reaching 197 in a modified Dodge Hellcat on the Interstate at night. Or ponder the two guys who drove their old Mercedes SL 55 AMGs (stock, not modified) 202 and 201, respectively, on Florida Interstates (saw one of their night driving videos on YouTube, he pegged his car's 200 MPH speedometer and had to use GPS to determine his exact speed).
Don't know if already mentioned, but the C5Z especially has a HUGE weight advantage; this will show up as a major benefit in accelerating, braking, and handling. Interesting comparison, with the modern dynamics making up some of the ground.
No offence, but this post is pointless. At the end of the day, the guy who wins is the guy with the deepest pockets.
Yes, it's true you can modify and then the comparison becomes less relevant.
However, there are some dynamics that are hard to overcome, like weight, suspension geometry/balance, driving view/position, etc. I think it's a pretty interesting comparison, even with the time separation between the two cars..
On the street, stop light to stop light the driver with the better reaction and control will win.
Are you sure?
Don't get me wrong, I have and love the C5. But, the huge advantage of having the engine over the drive wheels. Just imagine when the Supercharged C8 comes out with 800 HP..... Oh my...
Watch my REAR ENGINE NON POSI 380HP Fiero walk all over this 131 MPH Dodge Challenger - until half track. No, my fiero is not a C8. But like a C8, the drive wheels have more than half the cars weight on them....
Meh. The C8's traction advantage is mostly mitigated by a set of sticky tires. I may not beat it 0-60, but it'd be damn close. Once second gear hooks, the mid-engine sees tail lights. Hopefully I have my next set of mods done so I can keep up with the performance variants.

100% agree- sticky tires on the prepped track.
Disagree when on the street where traction is FAR from perfect. Rear engine will dominate.
All I'm saying is if the C8 driver falls asleep at the light or has a heavy foot= traction loss (traction control on/off), he's not catching me before the next light.
I love that movie.....
I am the opposite, I don't want to get caught on the street doing 120mph way to expensive plus if you hurt someone..... Big trouble. I race to about 70 if at all.
I like to run it up to 130 at the local track though...
I don't think the difference will be as great as you think. Only one way to find out. Also, hardly anyone races from a dig on the street. Lol.
Yeah race or not I hate "launching" the Z regardless...unless you get it just so you're really just introducing alot of excess unnecessary wear & tear on the drivetrain/suspension components.
That being said....my Raptor would blow the socks off ALOT of stuff 0-50 stop light racing in cool weather + AWD mode = can MASH the throttle & 470whp/560rwtq + massive meats (305s are 305s on all 4 wheels regardless of tread design) + 10 speed tranny + 4.10 gears + a lil brake boost = HOLY SH*T haha
c8 is much more refinded, launches much better and hooks like a drag car, handles better etc.. it is heavier and does not have the big beef under the hood. the supercharged c5 z06 advantage is light weight, tons more power. it will not outhandle a c8 unless set up as a track car, wont out stop it unless set up as a track car. for the c5 to outperform a c8 it needs to be modified a lot.
Times are no longer about who has more power its about how it puts it down
The C8 has gearing, and is too "smart". Line em up at the track and see
10 yrs ago I thought I had a pretty fast st car....I dont even play with new mundane stuff from a dig anymore..or on the street period
I dunno - the thing is so well balanced & the tranny is so well dialed in apparently I think it'd be alot easier to get wring 9/10's of the performance from a C8 Z51 than a C7 Z06, or a tt C5......I have a 640whp blown/cammed C5Z & yeah on a roll it'll stomp all kinds of stuff w/ good tires, but from a dig or even around a track now w/ this much power & even more weight over the nose to get to the same level of handling it'd take to use more of that power against the C8 it'd probably take some serious suspension mods as well maybe stiffer leafs or going to coilovers, fat *** sway bar w/ widened fenders & 335mm+ rears?
For the record - this is EXACTLY The reason I opted to put more money into modding my C5Z vs. "upgrading" to a C6Z or C7 Z06/GS - (IMHO the C6 or C7 ZR1 would be the only front engine vettes I'd consider an "upgrade" to what I have now @ this point) - fancy interior & edgy body lines aside, look underneath a C5 or C6 (which for all intents & purposes should now be known as the C5.5 since its the weakest example of "progress" to the platform one gen to the next) or C7 & they're all VERY similar. Rear drive, pushrod V8 out front, manual tranny, transverse leafs, AL A-arms/cradles etc. etc. - In terms of pure performance they all do the same tricks very similarly & once you bring mods into the picture C5-C7 are all extremely equal w/ each gen having their strong & weak points. Why on earth would I want to "start over" again w/ a newer version of the same platform wind up w/ a payment looking @ what I could get for my C5Z + what I put into it for the recent build I'd still have a payment on a new or CPO C7, & a C6Z I'd wind up w/ only a small loan but have to shell out $$$$ immediately whether to fix the heads OR if already done -start the mod craze up again w/ a new ride.
Instead after re-driving a stockish C6Z, a mew Z51 stingray, a barely used '18 Z06, an M2, an M3, a cayman S, a new Civic-R, CLK63, GTR, ZL1 camaro & SS 1LE, etc. I realized I already have a paid-for platform perfect creating the ultimate combo of muscle/sports/track/powerhouse beast of a car - & interiors/tech doesn't matter in that regard. A true upgrade would be a REAL departure from what is essentially a massaged version of the same car over the last few gens - the C8. I could see me getting into one not to displace my modded C5Z (nope - w/ the upgraded stereo/lights & all the power/badass stance pop-up lights lopey cam etc. its a rolling F**K YOU to the EV world lol - gonna be so cool in 10-20 years to still have a car like this) - but as a true GT car that can be a DD or track weapon if you choose. I also like the RC-F.....but w/ 2 vehicles in my stable & my wife having an SUV a 3rd car is gonna be a hard sell in a couple years or in the very least will cost me in jewelry & handbags for the wife lol
*For the record, I'll reiterate, after going back/forth for last 2 years on whether to mod or swap out the C5Z driving all different stuff the ONLY 2 outta them all that made me consider something else was the C6ZR1 - too much $$$ for a used ride, but worth every penny - you can immediately tell driving one back to back against a standard C5 or C6 car its just assembled tightly & w/ more care - you can almost tangibly feel it in the driving experience. The other car I really liked? The Civic-R - yeah I know, crazy, completely different - but a hoot to drive hard ALL the time w/o concern of getting yourself into big trouble, has 4 doors, maybe the best stickshift I've ever grabbed in a factory vehicle, I could buy outright brand new w/ warranty would be dirt cheap to maintain & would probably last a long *** time - just couldn't get over the exterior looks, the Honda badge, & the allure of a blown V8
Well said!!! I have had comments made about the money that I have in my C5, but it's unique, it's fast, and frankly I like the interior design, it's just the materials and build quality were lacking, which I have addressed. I am with you on the C8, love it, except that it doesn't come with a manual. I know that the auto is faster, but without the manual the driving experience is the same as my 300 SRT unless I'm pushing it around corners.
