I couldn't remember exactly what was fighting me but after reading it now it probably doesn't help in your situation.

As far as headers I wish Summit racing made them for C5 Corvette, I just bought long tube headers that are summit brand for big block Chevy for 1960-1987 trucks, my 1965 C10 short bed truck has a 396 bbc I swapped into truck years ago.
The headers are ceramic coated and were $269.99.
Want to add headers to C5 one day, seems there was a thread here about someone trying $300 ebay headers, if I recall they worked fine but used better gaskets and clamps.

With any luck we will finally get the old engine out tomorrow. I need to get ahold of a 33mm socket to get the rear axles out and I still need to purchase a ball joint separator and really like the look of the one Chris used on his YouTube channel my corvette life to get his suspension out.
Is rebuilding the steering rack worth doing oneself or am I better off paying someone to do it?
Why are the axle boots so dang hard to come by? I thought that getting those would be no problem but it appears I thought wrong. I am also having a heck of a time locating a full set of ball joints. I think I am going to use the same bushing kit that Chris used in his video as it looks like good bang for the buck. With 127K on the clock it seems stupid not to rebuild the entire suspension.
You might be able to use loan a tool at AutoZone for certain tools, buy it and return, just takes a few days for $ to go back into your bank.
I bought harbor freight ball joint and U joint tool set to use on my 1965 C10 truck years ago and it worked great getting the ball joints out, and pressing the new ones in.
Remember upper ball joints were harder because they had big rivets to grind off, then use a punch to knock out the rivets, not sure how they are on C5, but I did like you are, replaced everything as I was upgrading to front power disc brakes and power steering.

The tie rod ends are the same way. I used the tools from HF and they worked fine, its just a lot of work.

Thank you. I plan to get my hands on the harbor freight tool as it should be sufficient for me to do this once in a while. I am not a mechanic as a day job so it would be fine. Wish me luck getting the parts. I have found a lot of things are out of stock.
I am sorry that I don’t have any pictures or updates today. Saturday is typically my day to make some progress. Unfortunately we got a call Friday letting us know about a family emergency making some unexpected travel necessary and possibly a funeral in the very near future. Family always comes first so there will be some time off from the project while we handle this situation.
Unfortunately I have lost compression in the #1 cylinder. I believe I have located a suitable replacement one state away and plan to pick it up next weekend. The replacement is a bone stock LS1 out of another Corvette. Should be plug and play. Whilst I have it out on a stand I figure it will never be easier to work on. I will definitely do a water pump, swap for an LS2 timing set and definitely do a harmonic balancer.
I am toying with swapping for 243 heads and also thinking about doing cam, springs, lifters and trunion upgrade since the head swap will require pulling most of that stuff anyway. Is it worth the hassle or should I just leave well enough alone with the 241s?
Is there anything else I should consider while I am in there? Cost is a consideration but I have a little money to play with. I mostly just cruise with an occasional track day. I am also up for any suggestions for the cam.

Do you want to keep a "stealthy" profile, or a nice rumpety idle?
I've been thru a lot of mods in my 17 years of ownership. If your description of usage is accurate, I would call Allan Futral in Louisiana. I believe he uses Cam Motion lobes on his cams. I'm thinking if your car is an M6, I'd say a 112° lobe separation angle, with 228°/232° duration@.050 lift. If an A4, I'd say a 114° LSA, 224°/228° duration@.050 lift. In BOTH cases, if you want a really reliable, long term ride, I'd stay at .590"-.600 lift MAX. I'd also take Allan's recommendations over mine, or others. But make sure you're honest with him, and yourself, on the intended usage. Please excuse me now, I'm going to go put on my bulletproof vest and war paint, lol......

A while back I remember a kit you could buy to rebuild your seats. It included everything. New foam new covers etc... I can’t seem to find that anywhere now... Any idea who sells that?
Yeah I think 799 is the truck/van version of the 243 heads, also I think they put them on LS2 engine, no light weight titanium valves though like 243 Z06 heads.
I don't think the LS6 used Ti valves. It did use sodium filled exhaust valves, however.

M6. Thank you for the suggestions. I am hoping to be able to get back to this shortly. Still in the throes of some family issues at the moment.
Typically Saturday is my day to work on this project. Unfortunately, due to ongoing family matters, i have no further progress to report this week. I appreciate all of the encouragement and advice and hope to be back to the project soon. I will continue to solicit advice and refine plans in the meantime as I find it a nice bit of zen with all of the chaos going on. About 2 weeks ago we got the call that a close family member was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, that it was already very advanced, and that they had the additional complication of sepsis. So prognosis is not very hopeful.
So as I have had a lot of time to surf the net whilst sitting and waiting with the family situation, I am worried that I may have made a mistake picking up C5 Z06 wheels. I did it specifically because of the cost of tires for the C6 Z06 wheels I had. What I had not counted on was the difficulty finding tires to fit those Z wheels. I am wondering if I should cut my losses and just go find some aftermarket wheels that will accommodate a size that is more plentiful. It never occurred to me that this would be an issue.
My boys and I needed a break this weekend from all the family drama, so we took a few hours and finished removing the old engine. We also got started with breaking down suspension, removing bushings and ball joints etc. And we began to polish some of the bits. I was inspired to do the polishing by Chris and his Corvette Life videos on YouTube. It was a bit of zen making some progress on the vette together.

I did remove my engine this weekend also it was a pain in the but since i have not removed the front and the cradle is also in the way , did you remove the cradle ?
