Are you going to do a mail order tune, or go to a local tuner?

I haven’t quite decided. When I spoke with TexasSpeed they gave me the contact for mail order tunes who seems to do an awful lot of the tunes for their customers... I am very tempted to do that since it is about half the price and I am not going wild with the build... Absolutely open to suggestions here.

I've never had any tuning since mine is still stock.

I've read East Coast Supercharging does mail order tunes for $150.00 not sure if that is still available or not.

Honestly mine would still be stock if it hadn't failed. I enjoyed the car as it was. However, since I have to do the work anyway might as well add a little. I never met a hundred horses I didn't like after all...

You sent the heads for a valve job at a local machine shop?

Just curious what they charged.

By the way I had a company van with 799 heads on a 4.8 and 6l80e 2013 model it was much faster than a older van I used to drive that was maybe a 2005 with a 4.8 and 4l80e.

I'm thinking the 799 heads really perked it up, but could have been the 6 speed transmission, also not sure what rear gear ratios both vans had.

I’m under the impression that 799 heads and 243 heads are the same.

Not a bad price.

Yeah I think 799 is the truck/van version of the 243 heads, also I think they put them on LS2 engine, no light weight titanium valves though like 243 Z06 heads.

I think I am going to do long tubes as well. And a custom tune at a local shop and dyno.

For a tune check out the vendor here. Corvettes of Westchester (Chuck CoW).

Good mail order tunes that are 90% (to stay safe) and cheap at $200 (from memory).

I have my own hptuners but if not I’d check them out to get much closer than factory on a budget.

I will look into that. I now know exactly what is going into the build with the exception of picking the exact headers and X pipe.
Oh, with one exception. I haven’t picked my rocker arms yet.

If I do trunion upgrade is there any reason not to use stock rockers? They seem strong and very light. Well, strong other than the crap needle bearings...

Your stock rockers with a trunnion upgrade will be perfect. Very strong and safe.

Great. Thank you. That is what I was thinking. Ordering the peripheral stuff now. Water pump, oil pump, gaskets etc,,,
Thinking high flow regular pressure melling at this point. Was going to go high pressure regular flow but the machine shop that built my heads advised against that. Thinking regular stock GM water pump. Going to do a Dewitts radiator and Silicone hoses.

You mean the "bronze bushing upgrade", right?

Look into his reviews on here... He's not a vendor anymore either, he's banned
